SO i started folding a week or so ago, prettty muxch been running gpu client 24/7 less my fiancee says its loud......
On my 2nd computer i have ati 4870 on a 17" monitor. I only use this computer for Everquest so there is no reason to keep the 4870. Would there be any benefit folding wise to lowering the power of the card and going to Nvidia? I thought Nvidia were better for folding or something?
 
its a back and forth arguement between nvidia and ati being the better card.. points wise nvidia is better.. but nvidia and ATI cards dont run the same projects.. ATI cards tend to run the much larger projects where as nvidia runs the smaller faster projects.. cpu usage wise nvidia is the way to go though.. but hopefully they fix that problem soon on the ati side.. if you have a second slot you could always throw that 4870 in your other system.. and get a cheap 9 series nvidia card..

ive had too many probs with Crossfire that i dont want to do it.

you dont actually have to run it in crossfire.. just take the bridge out and you can use both cards to fold with..
 
The 4870 is a pretty good folding card. it might not be as good (production wise) as a Nvidia GTX200 series card, but it will still do quite nicely. If you already have the 4870 I would fold with that instead of getting a new card. :)
