Hows the Top 20 producer neighborhood?

I plan on moving in next week and just wanted to know how the schools are ;)

Let's say it's hot in there... Nobody is nice enough to share mojo in that neighborhood :(

I don't know, Ive been having a pretty easy time lately. :p Now, top ten is going to be a different story.

I'm coming around the corner!

So close I can taste it!

Note how I'm right behind ya Kendrak... and I have that Q6600 going in next week :) Wahahhaaha rubs hands menacingly.

This thread made me take a look...and crap! I'm there in the top 20 myself. :D w00t!!!

Been folding now since Feb. 2nd and went over 300k a couple days ago.

Yep nice production #'s! Keep it up! :)

This thursday, I will finally restart the 7 computers in the lab and this will bring my missing 8000 ppd back. This will put me in the top 10 and hold off everyone minus WRat... Wharf_Rat is a beast by itself and I cannot hold it off without buying 20 Q6600 :(

I got a couple Q6600 CPU's this past week, but it looks like one of them is concave pretty bad on the IHS and I'm not getting real good temps clocked at 3Ghz, so my production isn't quite where I want it to be. I'm hitting low to mid 60's on core 1 with a 2-3 degree spread across all cores.

While I know this isn't terribly hot by some standards, I'm a little reluctant since my other Quads runs a max of 55C. Any suggestions on this? I'm considering lapping it, but I really hate to void the warranty. Tried three different HSF's (Scythe Mine, Zalman 9500, Gigabyte PCU22-SE) and none of them really get the temps down to where I like.

Can you send it back and exchange it? That would prob be the best thing you could do.

I'd lap it. I just bought 10 sheets each of 5 different grades of wetndry polishing paper. My Water cooling setup has an E6600 that is not flat or a water block that is not. Temps would get up to 60c under water... The reason I know that is not a good temp, my 8800GTX which is overclocked only hits 52c, and when I'm folding it sits at 45c, which means something is not being very efficient in pulling heat out of the processor.

Hopefully lapping will fix this.

No, not directly. It was a microcenter deal I had AthlonXP to pick up for me. I don't have the receipt on either one of them.

AthlonXP sent you a dud Q6600 :p:D

If you can't send it back, I would try lapping it. Your only other option would be to pop the top and run it without the heat spreader. It's dangerous to do though. Linky Linky2 Linky3

I've also heard you can remove the heat spreader with cold, but I can't find a link to anyone who has successfully done it.

The dude at MC dropped my Q6600 off the counter onto the floor...thing runs hot as crap, of course it's vid is like 1.325 or something rediculous. It's sitting at 2.7 now, should be able to get it atleast to 3.0 on stock cooling.

CPUs are about the only computer component I don't worry about voiding the warranty on. Normally, it's either going to work or it isn't going to work and isn't going to die anytime soon unless you do something to it you're not supposed to which means the warranty was voided anyway.

I know all about temps that are way too high. I replaced my old Koolance EXOS with a TRUE on Friday on my main system which is running at 3.6Ghz. My temps usually didn't go above 62C with the EXOS. I put the TRUE on and ended up at 68C at full load. I was not exactly happy with those temps. That was the hottest core with the next one at 62C and the other two around the low 50s. Obviously, something was wrong which I'm sure was the heatsink. I spent an hour Sunday lapping the damn thing. It was badly convex and had a "ripple" in the base. Now, the CPU doesn't even hit 60C on the hottest core and the difference between cores is a lot lower. Just for the hell of it I lapped the heatspreader on the CPU and as I figured, it didn't do anything except make is really shiny. It was flat to begin with.

Yeah it is funny how those things can vary.. even the cpu lid can be warped. My true on my Q6600 @3.6 doesn't get above 55 if the room is at room temps. When the closet hit 82.8 it was hovering at 59c, which is not horrible... So I got lucky.

Regardless having a good quantity of lapping materials is nice I have a set and if temps don't stay below 60c (my usual goal) its off the lapping I go..
