i've got a 4200+ x2 939 cpu that i upgraded to after the price cuts. I'm running an A-Bit AV-8 motherboard, so how do the clients look? does everything look like its running well?

I leave the computer on all day, and i was wondering if i would see a jump in folding performance if i over clocked my cpu. I'm kina new in that area, and my motherboard is a bit dated, but what do you think i could get it to? i have a Zalman 9500 as a heatsink, and a U2-UFO case, so airflow isnt an issue :)

I dont know why the times dont match in the folding clients, and they have been running since i re-set this morning, does everything look ok? Am i pushing the computer too much by leaving it on all the time?

Sorry of the noob questions lol, and thanks for the help.

Looking good.
Keeping the computer on all the time, assuming adequate cooling, is OK.
Your temps seem good.

CPUs don't get tired or need rest like we do. The way I see it, keeping the computer on and running 100% produces a more even temp, so less physical stress on the electronic components. Hard drives probably suffer some from 24/7, but over many years of 24/7 all hard drive problems for my boxen have been because of spikes/power outages that have screwed with the power supply.

Fold on!

lol i always left my computer on, just not under a load like this. How many computers do you have running/folding?

I agree, everything looks good.

The times don't match exactly because you are running 2 different proteins. The different proteins/runs/gens all take different amounts of time. We can see with the upper display that that one is taking about 12 mins per fran and the other is taking 3 hours per frame. You can look up your proteins and see how many frames they are and how many points you'll get. Also on most of the proteins there will be a little paragraph on why that protein is important and or what it does.

that is so cool, i'm working on a protien that effects motor cordination (sp), Myosin or something. That impacts me more then anything, because my aunt has MS, shes fine, but that protien might lead to a cure for her. Dang that just hit home [H]ardcore ;)

WELCOME TO THE ADDICTION :D

come in, grab a cold one and headbutt yourself a roo :D

Looks like you are doing great ! Welcome to this band of computer warriors :p

A year ago or so , I started folding on 3 computers-- 2 in my "fish" room, and my wife's... Today there are 10 'puters folding in the house, and 3 borgs at my sons' homes. (no fish). I'm no IT pro or school staff, so no mass borgs for me :(. My wife can't figure out why she needs a "CornRow" computer ..... ha, ha, I'll bring her around yet....
My latest build, an Allendale E6400 (only slightly OC'd so far) is producing twice as many points as my 3.8Ghz P4 (single core) .... Right now I want more Allendales... E6300 is just fine with me....

Ahh... I was looking at your screenie again & noticed that you don't have the -forceasm flag set on either client... As Marty9876 pointed out, that is a "must" flag for getting fastest frame times and therefore greater points. If you want to see more info back from the client, you can use the -verbosity 9 flag . If anything goes wrong with a WU, that helps you figure out what & why.

omg i have such an itch now to go get some parts, for the 3500+ i have sitting around here. about $150 and it could be up and running... lol whats better to do, a bunch of cheapie computers, or a few high powered monsters?

Edit: i'll add that tag right now

Arrow you a fish guy?
I tried for awhile... had 4 tanks from 10-30 gal. Now I'm back down to one 30gal tank .. with 2 clown loaches, 2 cory cats, about 10 raspboras (mix of silver & hets)

et tu ?

oh i this guy in the barracks here had a 50gallon salt water tank filled with Triggers, a few "nemo's", some eels, and a huge fish with poisined stickers all over it that looked really flashy. We used to feed the salt water fish baby mice, it was so wrong, yet it was like a trane wreck you couldnt stop watching...

Well, that's a very good question.... Marty can tell you tons about trying to setup & run a lot of older machines (crappers)... and it gets expensive to try to keep adding hotrods.... I suspect most of us with a number of home machines have a mix of both. But right now (emphasis on "now") the most folding bang for your buck on a new cpu will be an Intel E6300 which looks to be an overclocking champion !

RPhArrow--\\\---------------------->

edit: BTW I just brought up a couple AMD 3400+ for cheap and it was well worth it !

Yeah as some others have already said, you were/are missing the forceasm flag, thats why the bottom console was taking 3 hours per frame. Using forceasm tells it to ignore the improper shutdown that happened before you started it back up. Then it will continue on like normal and the points will start flowing!

And to answer your question about overclocking, heck YEAH it will increase how fast it folds! As long as you can keep the cpu running in the 40's or low 50's fully loaded you'll be in good shape. Come winter it will be just fine.

And lastly, WELCOME, it's an addiction!

i've gotta get a new computer going, a cheapie to run as my media center, but of course it can fold too, so i'll grab those parts off of Newegg tomarrow to get it up and running, so i'll have 2 Computers/3 cores going at once.
Hows this look now?

@ lamb- your running these as a service right? No black DOS boxes during normal usage right? Enable big packets if you wish, more points but more memory used locally.

Don't really need -local less you don't want ID key stored in regeristy. Don't matter much either way.

ACUALLY your flagging these wrong near as I can tell. Should not be xxx.exe

Should be as below. Something else is off, I forget now.

@ fish guys- freash water for the weak... :)

Ohh, RE crappers- if your buying something for folding buy something you want to use for other things too. New stuff is so much faster than old it's not even funny. If it's a computer and on anyways, fold. If your buying something, don't buy crap it's just a waste of money.

i figured i'd stick with the 939 socket for now, and use only dual core proc's. the 3800x2 seems to over clock quite well from what people are saying. I definatley dont have ny experience overclocking, but i learn very quickly. Dual cores save on space. Oh and FYI i am brand loyal blind... whats an Intel?

lol.... I'm old enough to have swung both ways , now I'm bi-computer ! (I buy the best computer I can when I have the money!) With the dual core offerings from either camp right now, it is a great time to learn about overclocking. Check out some of the other [H]ardForums ....
