Here comes conroe...

Actually, just the NDA lifts tonight, shipping won't start until the 23rd.

hmm..I never noticed before, but they skipped the 6500. How odd...

Lower clocked 4MB chip? hmm..

It used to be on the price list as: E6500 2MB 2.40GHz 1066MHz FSB Q4 $269

I can see how that might confuse some people since the E6600 is also 2.4GHz.

Kind of like the 3800+ Venice and Manchester...

Anyway, thanks. That was answered awful quick. :p

Actually if we're going into semantics, it launches tonight but there isn't going to be availability until the 23rd.

So, will the [H] crew have a Conroe preview posted for us tomorrow?

Definitely sounds like it if you look at the "Magic 8 Ball Says" post on the main page..

Off topic, but what happened at Nationals? ;)

On topic: Who's staying up tonight?

*raises hand*

*looks around*

*puts hand back down quickly*

Start a poll? Which reviewer will screw it up. Example Frank and Bert at Tom's Hardware. "We overclocked the AthlonXP but we didn't overclock the Northwood C because we didn't want to make it unstable. You know how unstabled overclocked P4's are."

all this talk about conroe, i am woundering will it really be better than AMD, if it is and cheaper i just might have to switch to the dark side :p

Dude, Conroe costs less and performs far better than the AMD chips out now. Thats not the question.

I am still holding out till real test results when they are released, comparied to a rig like mine

I can't believe how many people are already convinced Conroe is going to slam AMD, even though all we've seen is canned benchmarks. And you all call yourselves [H]ard.

Anything can be made to look great, given it is in the right conditions. Don't get me wrong, I'd be glad to see Conroe be very good, but I tend to stay suspicious of these type of benchmarks until everything is a done deal.

Actually, although I did not believe it as much being an AMD fan for a while now, based on preliminary experiences at XS forum, the conroe will out perform AMD's fx offerings by a bit. Heck, I compared my opty 170 at 2850 to those at xs and well, I may need to upgrade in a month or so...

what i am thinking, but that is going to mean new mobo/processor maybe more ram, i know my video is fine, being water cooled in all :p
Has anyone had any problem's water cooling these yet?

Take a look at XS. Just about everyone has a C2D. It sounds like you don't want to face the light. Is it so hard to look at the facts? Instead of fearing that AMD will be crushed, why not be excited about the competition?

I was not aware anyone could say anything about production processors yet. I'm not that big of an AMD !!!!!!, if C2D is better that is what I am buying. I'm just saying the NDA is not up so nothing is for certain yet.

Its not even a question. Conroe slams the crap out of anything AMD currently has to offer. There have been plenty of Conroe reviews engineering samples released and quite a few end users on the boards posting results. I will bet you any amount of money that the reviews that post after NDA lifts tonight will show the same thing. An E6600 can beat an FX-62 in most benchmarks at stock speeds. The E6600 at 2.4GHz will overclock to as high as 3.5-4GHz. The FX-62 isn't going to do much over 3GHz on aircooling. There isn't even a question of competition here dude.

Several users have already received retail boxed X6800's and the engineering samples perform the same as the retail versions. Doesn't matter if the NDA has lifted or not to an end user. You have to agree to the NDA before you can be held to it lol.

People at XS have these processors. They're not Intel employees, and they're not exclusively using Intel boards and graphics and such. They're real people, building rigs just like yours or mine. Only difference is they break out the LN2 when they go to overclock. :p

<thinks for about 10 seconds what he may be talking about>...oh, do you mean FBLA which I mentioned in my sig?

Didn't place, unfortunately :( . Had a great time in Nashville though, and there were at least 40 others competing in my category who won 1st place at states but didn't place at nationals either, so I'm okay with it. It was a great experience.

Next year I'll probably do Technology Concepts or maybe VB Programming.

<gets back on topic>

Hey everyone, should we start a "countdown to Conroe launch"? Or better yet, let's call it the "countdown to [H]ard forum server crash".:p

That's cool, you still got three more years. Do two events, you didn't place at nationals, so you're still eligible.

I just thought it was an amazingly odd thing to put in a sig. :p

No games will require conroe for about 2 years so you r OPTY 170 will last you a while and hold you on to AMD's answer. No game has even surpassed 3.0ghz yet. So your fine

For sheer framerates games CPUs are still one of the main bottlenecks at low resolutions.

I haven't seen any game benchmarks yet so I'm not siding with AMD or Intel quite yet. SuperPI doesn't mean that much to me. That's why I like HardOCP, they tend to review things based on real-world gaming performance. Sorry if I don't care that much about numbers, but about a fun experience.
