I've had the hercules game theartre XP Live for a while now, definently thinking about updating my computer, wondering if it's worth it to change sound cards to the audigy 2 zs. Usually use it for gaming, and music. currently using the 640 speakers. I still can't figure out how to connect all 3 wires to it

I have 4.1, but I suggest you get a 1/8" minjack -> RCA adapter (for the center/sub)

I have the sound card, and having the external unit is great - I upgraded from an SB Live! with Live Drive. . . I do a lot of recording, but don't have professional sound hardware on this rig. . . this still gets the job done.

It's a great little card -- I don't see a reason to upgrade at all. As for the sub, my 560s plug into the sub, which plugs into the GTXP. . . so I don't know what to tell ya there. I'm 90% behind the GTXP though, if only they fixed (or cyberlink) fixed the minor issue with powerDVD where you have to "jump start" the GTXP sound to hear the rear speakers (the rears are silent until you play winamp, a sound, or something similar). From that point on, your DVD will play correctly :rolleyes: .

i get that with media player, however it's always my rear speaker... of my rear speakers won't work. Is there any way to fix that with out manually starting winamp? i almost rma'ed my speakers thinking i popped my rear speaker. thx for info hehe

i also have the GTXP. I still love it. Although both my mic and headphone ports are dead. I need to replace the actual plug. Otherwise the soundcard has been great to me and i've had no real problems since hercules actually released some decent drivers a couple months after i bought it.

Edit: To add to this, I've also thought of jumping to an audigy 2 but i know i'd have to get the plat. because i'd miss the easily accessible plugs, not to mention the MASSIVE about of out/inputs. I really dont think i'd like a live drive as much as the external box.

i have this GTXP and my only gripe is the HUGE cable that connects the external unit to the pci card. that sucker is one fat cable and not very flexable.

that's true, once you get it in position and the cable "molds" to that spot its hard to get it to go anywhere else ;)

I thought the cable was pretty bad at first, but after a year and a half it seems to do whatever I want it to. I seem to be lucky with my card; no driver conflicts or anything going wrong with it.

I for one am glad the cable is so bulky. Most likely there a decent amount of shielding in there. I like shielding.

yeah i've never really had a problem with the cable. The worst part is when you goto a lan party and forget the thing at home. I always wished there was a single output on the actual card itself for just that situation.

anyone try using the digital coax in on the back? i tried with a sony dvd player and it didnt work at all!

otherwise the extremly minor quirks are small issues compared to the ones the SB cards have (no i/o !)

I've got a question for all you gtxp owners. Did Hercules upgrade the drivers so that the gtxp can work in 7.1 or is it still only 6.1?

thanks

The digital coax in back is audio (I'm assuming you feeding the digital audio out into your rig and not video).

One of my buddies got one of those to transfer digital recording from his DAT machine onto CD, feeding it through the digital co-ax into Soundforge. I remember it was a MAJOR pain in the ARSE to get working and, even then, the volume was somewhat tame (could have used more signal). Even the original Soundblaster Live Platinum did this WAY better. I use an Audigy Platinum for this.

The SB Audigy Platinum series have TONS of i/o's (digital Coax and fibre, RCA I/O, MIDI I/O, etc). Right about the regular flavor, though.
