this is how my network is setup, i just added 24 and 25. I have everything on my network set to use a static i provide them but neither 24 or 25 will grab and ip from the modem/router/gateway or accept the assigned one, can't connect in the network or get internet and im not sure what to do. All the lights come on for each comp and the connection to other switch but nothing works, i tried my other hub and switch but they didn't seem to work either, Any ideas?

How are you connecting the two switches (the redline in the pic below)?

That dwinky DSL modem may have a limiter on it, and/or a firmware that prevents more then so many machines. ISP's have been doing that for years. Is there an interface you can mess around with on that modem and check out its settings?
 
does the switch you are adding have an uplink port?
if it does make sure your connecting to it (with the cable goign to the other switch)

if not while some switches can auto detect,
it'll probably require a crossover cable to go from normal port switch - normal port switch
 
I have a straight cable from a normal port to upload. Before i went to bed last night i tried normal to normal but nothin. Would a crossover cable work? and i know my modem isn't stopping anymore machines becuse i'v had more then this online before.

Thankx Malk-a-mite for the nice picture, i was getting tired and didn't wanna go find the software.

Are you saying that you can not assign a static address to either of those machines?

i can, just it dosent talk with the modem and it won't connect to the rest of the network. I can use Dynamic or Static as long as everything is in range of where it is sapose to be so i set static to keep better track of my Farm computers and then just the rest to make it easy.

Are 24 and 25 able to ping each other when they are assigned a static address and located on the same switch?

Start small and work your way out. First see if they can ping each other while located on the same switch then go from there by trying a device on the other switch and finally try to ping your gateway (modem/router). By working your way out in logical increments you will be able to determine the origin of the fault instead of guessing at where the problem is...
 
they can't seem to ping each other. Oh and on one of the comptuers (not sure bout the other) the green light on the nic is always flashing but the one on the switch is not. This is what im working with
 
If they can not ping each other on the same switch then you problem is with the switch or with one of the machines. Try swapping out NIC's, use a different switch, etc...

That kind of sounds like a speed/duplex mismatch. Your NIC and switch haven't been able to autonegotiate a speed to talk at. Try setting your NIC to 10/half and see if that resolves the issue. (Go into the properties of the NIC from Device manager, and from the advanced tab look for something like "Speed settings" or "Link/Duplex Settings". Set it for 10/Half and see if it works.)

10-Half Dupex was the answer. I only tried it on one machine for now since i have to switch monitor and keyboard to other computer since i was planning on using vnc :D thanx!
