I've posted my problem in a couple of other forums so i thought i'd post here too...

Ok ok , so my CS:S , the Stress Test runs fine . But when i get in game , on any server. And face in certain directions , generally the more open areas of each level the game seems to lock up and drop to like 1fps but i turn the camera back and it runs fine.

The game used to run perfectly until i installed Catalyst 4.12 , i removed them and tried the Omega 4.12 got the same problem , uninstaleld those and went back to Omega 4.11 same thing.
So i figured something else might be wrong so i formatted the PC and i installed Omega 4.12 once again , same problem .

Now i cant be bothered formatting again so has anyone else had this problem?

My system specs are

AMD 64 3200+
X800XT
1Gig ddr 400
MSI K8N neo 2 platium

Also , the other games i play seem to run fine. I tried HL2DM and that worked perfectly on Overwatch and the other level.

World of Warcraft has no problems either....

Just tried HL2 single player and same problem there . When facing the bigger zones . Even at the begining of the game it completely freezes up , i strafe accross abit and works fine.

This only seems to happen when i have all the settings on max. 1600x1200 16af 6aa etc. But it used to work fine on previous drivers . Could something on my card have fried? :S

Just got home from work tested it again , runs flawesly on 1024x768 and on 1280x960 on the same settings but i bump it upto 1600x1200 and ti drops to like 1fps? I dunno how to explain it but the pc pretty much locks up until i spin the camera aroudn and face a wall or something....
wtf is goin on

it ran fine a couple of weeks ago is the problem , i never did try ingame after Cat's 4.12 recently but when i did i found the problem . I have never overclocked the card and have an arctic silencer on it , running at bout 30 degrees and in the 50's in game.

Hmm.... must find answer ;S

I also just noticed . The data comming in when net_graph 3 is enabled in cs:s seems to be alot higher when its locking up , also my choke gets really high.
dunno if that has to do with anyhting :)

After even FURTHER investigation , I joined a server playing Prodigy witch ran perfect , not a single hitch . Quit that one jumped onto one playing Dust and the problem was back.

Also tried switching from Omega 4.12 to Omega 4.9 , same thing......

Why have i been cursed?!

The two dust maps run the worst out of all the maps; not as bad as your getting though. Your not forcing anything in your drivers are you? I was forcing some things in my drivers and I was getting poor performance as well. I disabled those forces and everything was running smooth after that. You might want to look into that.

I have the exact same problem with my X800pro

I can't say when it started to happen, but it wont go away.

I'm not forcing anything in the drivers either

Help us!!

Well let’s see here. I'm going to assume you have it set up so your game automatically receives updates from Steam correct? If not you might want to check for updates. What driver versions are you using? Try the omega 4.12's.

From what my experience is that it's a Steam issue collaborated with a driver problem. Just check your drivers to make sure nothing is being forced. I had my buffer forces to 24 or something like that and when I unchecked that everything was fine.

I noticed that after my recent reformat and clean install of Steam everything was fine.

Do you guys have HL: Source installed by any chance? The first time when I got the issue you guys are having I had HL: Source installed. I reformatted and didn't install HL: Source the 2nd time around and the issue disappeared.

I don't know if this is a HL: Source issue or not but it could be. My gut feeling is that it' a driver issue of some kind.

Problem fixed! Fresh format , installed Omega 4.9's as they are a set of driveres i remember definately working and they do! Not gonna touch 4.12's , ill wait till the next set of drivers are out lol.

Edit , strange thing is that when iformatted the first time and instaleld 4.12's i used the omega driver cleaner to remove them but when i installed the 4.9s it was still screwed , i had to reformat to get it all working :S

Awsome... I wonder if Valve's most recent update doesn't like the 4.12 CATS?.... Interesting.

Just a reminder every machine has different settings, different hardware, different progs, different bios's and so on, I havent formated my machine in a year now and havent had any problems with any games or progs, I keep everything up to date except sp2 which does cause me problems on my other machines that I use for testing software, So on my main machine I stay with sp1. I play all the latest games such as yourself and things are fine. Before I install any updates to my machine I check about 5 different forums to see if their is a pattern developing in any problems that might be showing up, then I'll make an informed decision about an update. With Ati drivers I usually install them switching between Ati or Omegas because I usually don't have any problems, other then the change over to CCC. I went back to Cp instead. Tried CCC ,read problems people were having and went back to the simpliar Cp.

Now for what might be the real problem, and maybe an answer.
Check to see what your video settings are in HL2 and your Ati control Panel. Thier are conflicts that happen when certain settings are on at the same time. I use to like to keep my settings the same for all games in Cp at maximum for the eye candy, but HL2 didnt like it, so I set Cp to Application preference just for HL2.
Now I use Radlinker for each game setting so I wouldn't have to go into my Cp to make the adjustments.
Hope this might help
