I have almost no experience with computer hardware. So work with me.
I just bought a Panasonic PV-GS9 Digital Camcorder. I needed a dv interface cable to get the movies on to the computer, so I got that. But now, I apparently need an IEEE 1394 host adapter card installed on the computer. I know where to get those, but I have no idea how to install it. Is it easy for someone with little/no experience with computer hardware, or should I take it to a computer store?

It is easy to install, and the instructions that come with the interface card should be sufficient to guide you. However, if you are at all unsure of what to do or of your ability, I'd take it to a pro. Plus, they'll probably show you how to work your camera and comp together.

if your going to do it yourself....

1. turn off computer
2. open case
3. look for an open PCI slot (white)
4. remove the metal plate blocking the slot
5. push card slowly into the slot with just enough pressure to make sure it's in and secure it with a screw
6. put case back on and turn pc back on
7. you may then have a disk to install for the card to work properly once windows is booted back up

otherwise watch/get help from someone that has expirence.

Even if you are unsure of yourself installing it, maybe ask one of your friends who might know something about computers to help you before you spend extra money having a "professional" do it.

Alright, I know a few people who could probably do it. Actually, at least one of them posts here regularly I think. I'll ask a friend, and if they can't do it then I'll take it to a professional.

Thanks!

Hmmm, change of plans. My dad doesn't want to take the computer down and start doing stuff to it, but he suggested that there must be some way to connect the DV interface cable to the usb port, probably with another cable. So is there some sort of extender that I can plug into the DV cable, then into the usb port in my computer?
