My computer was running at 50*C+ so I went out and bought 4 80mm fans. After I bought the fans and put them in I checked the temps and they are still around 50*C! What am I doing wrong, I know they are working cause I can hear the loud mofos from here.
 
When you say it was running at 50C, do you mean system temp or CPU temp? Also what are your full system specs? That'll help us help you the most.
 
Yes, my CPU is around 50*C and my RAM is around 45*C

XP 3200+
gig of ram
2x 80gig hd
Geforce 5900 ultra
 
Is your heatsink adequate for that application?
Are you using adequate thermal interface between the heatsink and the cpu die?
Did you remove the cover from the TIM pad on the heatsink?
Is the heatsink extruded, and the contact surface very rough?
Is your Vcore set properly?
Is the heatsink installed correctly?
Is the fan pushing air into the heatsink, or pulling air through the heatsink?

Check/verify these things

Also please specify what model motherboard you have, some of them have temperature reading bugs in their bios.

uhh I dont know much about wtf you just said :p but I have a N8X7V or whatever that is called.
 
nothing mentioned explains why the ram would be that hot as well.
normally >I< want my cpu to be 20-30 degrees above ambient temperture. So if my room that houses said putters is 70degrees F, then i expect my cpu to be no more then 100-110F if ive done my homework correctly. List your computer specs

I dont need my computer ruiend(SP). Could it be the fact that I have a tank above it that houses leopard gecoks and has a under tank heater which is set to 90*F?
 
That could definitely be a factor. It sounds to me like you're not getting adequate* airflow through your case...Therefore, your system temps are rising making your components run hotter. What kind of case do you have and how many fans do you have pulling in and how many are pushing out?
 
Yeah I'm thinking you don't have adequate airflow, what case are you using? Pics?
 
I have 2 fans pushing and 2 fans pulling, I think. It is an el cheapo case brand name Tuna

I will take pics of it later on today.
 
If you have two cages that are being heated to 90F around the case of course your temps are gonna be high.

It is prolly sucking in that hotter air from the cages and pumping it right into your computer. Try moving your computer away from them.
 
No, just one tank. Here is a picture of the inside and a picture of where it sits. The 2 other fans are by the hd, you can only see one. I think thoes are the fans that are sucking it all in too.

Well, I did re-arange my wires and stuff in that picture and right now my temp is currently reading at 38*C a for MB and 47*C for my CPU so that did make a little bit of a change. What are the temps for a xp 3200 before it starts to slow down? BTW, that temp is when idol, im shure after running halo or A*A for about 30 min it jump about 5*
 
That board in the picture (asus a7n8x (not sure of flavor) will automatically kill the power to the system if there is any risk in damaging the CPU (It saved my ass once) I think it cuts out at like ~70c, AMD's "can" stand heat up to 85c. But the normal rule is under 50c, so you should be good. I see you are using the AMD retail cooler, you might want to try replacing the TIM (the goop) on the bottom of this. I would recconend artic silvers cremique. Or better yet a better heatsink, the zalman 7000cu is tied for the current best AMD hsf.

Yea, its just the regular brand. I dont have enough money right now to buy a better heatsink, but from what a few AMD users have said is to not worry about it. After playing some AA it only gets to 53*C so I guess I can just drop it unless it starts to shut off a lot.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 53C within operating limits for an AMD 3200+ running at load under a stock cooler?

I saw a 10C drop in cpu temp and a 7C drop in chipset temp by moving from the retail AMD heatsink to a Vantec AeroFlow with AS5. Mine was also hovering around 50-55C, with the new heatsink, and no other changes, it dropped to a nice 35-40C idle.
