have you tried mounting your motherboard outside the case, on a piece of cardboard?
 
Its been out of the case for awhile....I took it out before I even started this thread :(

I really hope its not the Mobo

wow, uhh...i'm not sure what to say..

you HAVE tried different RAM, right ?

EDIT: so you've reset the CMOS AFTER getting your new HDD in there?
 
I haven't tried new RAM cause I don't have any. Would that really stop it from detecting the HD?

I tried clearing the CMOS before trying the new HD.

i doubt it would, it's just another thing to try..

well, let's review, you've tried:
1. Diff HDD
2. Diff IDE Cable
3. Diff IDE Slot

what you haven't tried:
1. Diff CPU
2. Diff motherboard
3. Diff PSU
4. Diff RAM

well, the only thing left is to try what you haven't!

I've tried 3 different PSUs...

I don't have any RAM, CPUs, or another Motherboard...

:(
 
Alright...should I hit DEL or F1? I've tried both and I'm lost.

If I hit F1 it says I have DDR SDRAM at Bank : 0
SDR SDRAM at Bank : None

Shouldn't it see the RAM?

Also in DEL i have these options...

Standard CMOS Features

Advanced BIOS Features

Advanced Chipset Features

Integrated Peripherals

Power Managment Setup

PnP/ PCI configuraitons

PC Health Status

Frequency/Voltage Control

Load Fail-Safe Defaults

Load Optimized Defaults

and the save and exit option.

Can anyone give me some advice?
 
Alright so I got it to see my Seagate as the master drive, Cd rom as slave and the floppy is there as well....It asked me to boot from CD..should I install the MOBO drivers? Seagate disk, or windows Xp? I tried the mobo disk first and it went to

Boot from CD :
Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter...
 
try this:

WinXP , then , when it starts its install it'll ask at the bottom of the screen "If you need to instal any 3rd party SCSI or RAID drivers press F6 Now"

it's the first thing it'll do, and it happens pretty quick so pay attention.

as soon as it says that, press F6 (it'll go on and say other things, like hit F2 for Automated System Recovery, etc. etc.) then it'll pop up asking for you to insert your floppy into the A:\ drive, so do that (w/ the Seagate floppy) and see if it installs/works


if not, then just install XP, and then install Mobo Drivers, and then install HDD.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile...

I got windows 98 on the machine now and i'm currently installing Xp as I type this.

Problems I'm having now are...

It won't reboot on its own. When Xp is installing and needs to reboot it just turns off. I have to hit the power switch and then connect the jumpers with a screwdriver to get it going again.

Also When rebooting it always seems to boot from disk. How can I get it just to boot windows?
 
what do you mean it "boots from disk"?


do you mean Floppy Disk
or CD kind of Disc

if it's booting from anything but the hard drive, just hit Del when the BIOS screen pops up, enter it, go into Advanced BIOS options or Advanced Chipset Options (i think it's the one right above Advanced Chipset Options) and look for something that says "First Boot Device" followed by a new line saying "Second Boot Device" followed by a third line saying "Third Boot Device"

just configure them accordingly, i.e. if you want it to boot from your HDD first, just set it to that :D
 
I wasn't sure if that would work :p I had to play with those earlier to get it to boot from CD-Rom first....Guess I should stop that now :)
 
ACtually its Win Xp now and it works great :p

I let a friend test the first HD on his comp...he hasn't had time to do it yet tho.
 
when i hit start/Turn of computer/reboot it just kinda goes to sleep...it won't reboot

oh well, at least the majority is working

that might be a setting in the BIOS, some sort of power saving setting..check around
