I accidently shorted out my computer when I bridges the 12v and ground on one of my molex plugs. Now when I boot it posts but it goes into the next screen thing and says Nvidia boot agent and then display failure. Did i fry my video card? :( BTW, i was connecting bare wires from a fan and I tihnk that fan is smoked cause there was smoke coming out of it. I did this on an old comptuer before and it lived. Im resetting the CMOS and hope it works.

Edit:

It says BOOT DISK FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISC AND PRESS ENTER.

Me now thinks my hdd drive is toast becase It was connected to the same molex.

got a boot disk? or a windows disc?

put it in and press enter

Thats what im doing now, 6 discs though:eek:

Edit: It doesnt detect the HDD on boot up, bye bye hardrive i guess :( :(

The system boot disc does nothing. I also tried switched it to my cd ide cable and nothing. There goes 100 bucks outta my 173 check I just got from my website.

can u get into bios?

if so make sure the HDD is the 1st boot device.

i dunno

Explain yourself. Was it on? What happened? I would say either the massive increase in current or the sudden lack of current has damaged components beyond repair. If it can post, i would say the mobo, proc and RAM are fine. But if the video and HD are fried, then their may be a chance that something else is fried.
If you did it with the computer on, you were probably lucky to still be alive...

As I said, I was connecting a fan by the bare wires to a molex and I guess one little strand touched the ground and 5v or ground and 12v. Im gonna install winxp on my 20giger which has bad sectors untill wednesday when I can buy my new hdd. I guess at least it gives me an excuse to the 120giger i was eyeing.

Everything appears to be fine, windows xp is so far installing good.
