Looking to get into pc gaming from console and not too sure what to look for. Considering Alienware 13 laptop but not sure if I'm getting ripped off. Budget is 2500$ but it's flexible if I need more
 
Try the pc hound system builder thread in the Forums. FYI the alienware is always priced higher than what you would get building a desktop.

for $2500 you'll probably get something good no matter if its alienware or not, but of course building it yourself will be better.
 
Do you need a laptop? You could build one hell of a desktop PC for $2500.
 
Yeah. Laptop is ONLY for when you absolutely, positively, life-or-death NEED mobility.

A $2500 notebook will play games at high settings, 1080p 60FPS.

A $2500 desktop will play games at Ultra settings, 1440p, 144FPS.

So, think about it.

I'd be careful with that suggestion. Ultra settings, 1440, 144FPS... the monitor that does that alone will be close to $800 which is a sizable chunk of OP's budget.

OP, is there any particular reason you need a laptop or is it just preference? Are you open to a desktop setup? If yes, then have you ever built your own desktop before? If no, would you be willing to try? If not then there are also a lot of great companies out there that do custom PCs for gaming and we could suggest some of them too.
 
eh, laptops and batteries and gaming power usage. IMO they do not mix very well. You will be better off with a desktop. get a 1080 GTX and build a system around it.

Op is not really responding, but I was going to suggest a 1070. The price to performance ratio he would get is fantastic.
