HELP!!

Setup:

Foxconn A7DA-S
Phenom II X4 940
x2 1TB WD Black

So...I have the above setup...running in RAID 0 config.

I can install windows just fine with no issues..my speed on the drive is around 180mb/ps with a low of 80mb/ps so they're running fine...EXCEPT...whenever I go to install programs, I get freeze-ups. Not your usual freeze-ups though, these are 20sec long freeze-ups sometimes. It seems like the HDD's just...quit responding.

I was installing Nero and then try to install another program, and it'll just...stop for a good 20secs...and it may or may not stop again.

What is causing this?? I have tried downgrading to the previous BIOS, but..did nothing. I was thinking it had to be something to do with the RAID controller as I installed a single 80GB SATA and it worked fine with no hiccups.

I took some quick screenshots of the HDD during the hiccup....also...things seem to 'run' fine, I just can't launch a program, it'll send it to a queue and it'll launch fine after the brief freeze-up period.

Thanks for any help!!

UPDATED PHOTOS

I was installing and it 'stopped'

After about 20secs...it kicked back in...as you can see.

In BIOS try to set your SATA to AHCI instead of IDE (or the other way around if it's already AHCI) and see if that helps

Might have to test both individually on a fresh windows install :( Could be one of the drives is bad

I had a similar problem. It just kept getting worse and worse. Downloads were even getting corrupted. It turned out that one or both of my RAM sticks were dieing. Go download memtest86 and see if that might be the problem.

That was actually my next step, I just hadn't gotten around to it yet.

I did try each stick individually (I have 4) but I didn't have time to re-install each time...very time consuming so I was going to run memtest on'em.

I did however, notice that when I put one stick in, it 'pixelated' the Win 7 logo at startup and I seen a few artifacts...but that went away when all 4 were in...very strange.

I'll run memtest for a bit and see how that goes...thanks for the reminder! Hopefully that's all it is and I'll just RMA 2 sticks at a time. =/

so you were using two different drives? that isnt a good idea to begin with

i have a raid-0 of three 1tb WD black drives in a computer at the office and it works fine. they are all identical drives though.

No...they are identical Black drives. WD1001FALS.

One is the newer firmware that WD took out the TLER option all together so it can't be enabled.

^_^

That's why I stated same drive...different firmware.

The only reason they have different firmware is b/c the old one, you can use the WD tool to enable the TLER...the new ones have it locked. =/ Apparently I have 1 new version and 1 old version so I'm SOL on getting them to run properly.

Yikes so close of buying 2 WD black 1 TB, Im so glad I did not. I was going to put them in raid-0.
