dunno if this is the right place to post this, but i got a friend who's just building his first computer.. but he's having some issues with it. It's a foxconn motherboard lga 775, pentium D dual core, and a radeon 4770... he tells me that the computer turns on.. but the monitor and keyboard don't work.

Not enough info in there...Did he try a different monitor? Did he try a different GFX?

How does he know the keyboard isn't working if there's nothing being put out to the monitor?

Anyway what foxconn motherboard does he have? If it has onboard video then I would try pulling the video card and trying to boot without it. That would atleast rule out one thing. Has he ever booted it or is this what happened on his first attempt?

gotta check the usual things hax.

pull all ram but 1 stick. if it does the same, swap sticks.

re-seat the CPU

check all power connections

pull the motherboard out, set it on some cardboard and try to boot the system from there.

More info:

Foxconn Digital Life ELA LGA 775 Motherboard
Pentium D CPU LGA 775
Kingston ValueRam Dual Channel 2GB DDR2 667
XFX Radeon HD4770
Corsair vx550w

What happens is when he turns on the computer there's nothing showing up on the monitor and keyboard isn't working. Tried swapping out video card with known good video card and still nothing shows up on display. Keyboard isn't working cause the backlight on it isn't lit up. There are no post beeps; however, there is a LED debug code on the motherboard that has a two digit code, d3; however, unable to find anything about the code in the manual or online. Just took the whole computer apart and ran the cpu + heatsink, motherboard, video card, and psu.. no case... and still same problem. i will reinstall the cpu and see if there's any changes...

I can't even get the motherboard to give me a post beep, is the motherboard faulty?

Reset the bios and take out one of the sticks of ram. If there is only 1 stick, make sure its in the correct slot. Makes sure the external power is plugged into the video card all the way.

+1

Reseat everything and make sure all power plugs are connected correctly. Also, like its been said above, make sure you try different hardware to rule out what it could be...if you try a different video card and theres still no signal it might be the monitor...try a different monitor...if the problem still continues try a different motherboard, etc, etc...

says "dual core pentium", not "pentium D", which I know is a dual core, but that isnt what they are talking about. Like a e5200, etc.
