its a problem with the 5506 WU.. its happening on every overclocked card.. 1 in 10 5506 WU's i did would actually complete.. its why i no longer fold for FAH anymore.. 12 incomplete WU's in 1 day is enough for me..

wow i wonder why they did that, they need a fix!! :) Anyways i set the card to normal speeds and now its folding  but thats ok, since the gpu folds way more then gaming so ill just turn up the settings before i game(because i pause fah when gaming) Thanks :)

The first things I would suspect in the GPU2 client "UNSTABLE_MACHINE" read out are a bad WU (delete or reinstall the client), then the GPU card OC being too agressive if it eue's on the 5506 WU again (I've read where "border line" GPU OC's with the 5506 WU or the 5748 WU causes eue's) and then I'd check the machines hardware. :)

I hope this helps, please post your solution. :D

? I already fixed the solution! :).. by setting the speeds back to normal... i was clocked kind of high at 800mhz from 738mhz for the core. But yea 800mhz was like 10mhz below from unstable since my card couldn't handle 810mhz in 3dmark06 so brought it down to 800 and was fine but its fine now :) and is it just me but this wu takes longer then others? Thanks!

You don't have to have the core cranked up for folding, just the shaders.

oh really? so if i crank up the shaders F@H will still fold and faster?  :p
Thanks

I gained nearly 1000 PPD on my 8800GT overclocking just the shaders. However, don't push it too much. The new WUs coming out are significantly tougher on the GPUs than the old ones, so you'll notice problems quicker. Just push it a bit at a time, then keep moving if it's stable for a WU or 2, especially for 5748s (one of the new ones).

I also forgot to add, I actually bump the core and mem down a bit on mine with no noticeable effect.

Yep.. great idea and it has an added benefit of offsetting temps a bit.

so your telling me to under clock the gpu?

If this is purely for folding, you can underclock the core and memory and overclock the shaders.....shader overclock will give the best performance, whereas memory and core do nothing for folding. reducing core and memory and will reduce the temperature, also giving you lower power draw, allowing you to overclock shaders more

not true.. shader only overclocked on my 8800GT went from 5200 to 5700 gpu and shader overclocked it went from 5700 to 5900 memory overclocked went from 5900 to 6129..

were these on the same work units? if so, maybe something they've done in the recent cores have helped this...

well i game some pretty graphics hungry game though.. but there will be like around at least 6 hours per day only folding, so i guess i can bring back the memory and core and bring up the shaders then when i game bring down shaders and bring up core and ram, thx for the advice never knew that.

Using RivaTuner you can save multiple graphics profiles for different clocks, then switch between them with just a few clicks :D

That's interesting, I haven't seen any noticeable difference where ever I put the core and mem clocks. I'll play around with it again and see if things are different now.

I've never noticed much difference with memory or core OC's in the DC'ing department. (GPU2 F@H). About the only thing that changes is the operating temp of an already hot freakin' GPU card (PNY 8800GT). I'm almost afraid to OC' the memory or core because even with the cooling fan set manual at 100% it runs between 58c and 60c with an ambient 21c to 24c. I have a single slot eVGA 8800GS and a dual slot eVGA 9600GSO and they run at ambient 21c to 24c about 9600GSO = 48c to 51c, 8800GS = 50c to 54c. :D

I'm going to try the Arctic Accels1 Rev2 vga cooler to lower the temps on my "hot city" PNY 8800GT then I'll explore the core and memory OC's. :p

Edit: Oh yeah, the PNY 8800GT GPU card is in a WC'ed Q6600 boxen (no OC ATM) with a 120mm fan directly blowin'on the side of the card and a 120mm fan blowing directly at the front of the card. The case also has a front 120mm fan. It may be overkill, but I'm just tryin' to keep the biatch cool. My other GPU cards are a eVGA 8800GS and eVGA 9600GSO, both cards have a shader OC of 1601 and run about 48c to 51c (ambient 21c to 24c). The PNY 8800GT shaders are OC'ed to 1800, I downclocked them to 1700 and had no appreciable temperature difference. I don't want to scale it back to 1601, the "stock city" is 1500.
