For a while now, my comp has been constantly crashing and I have had to constantly restore the software (as in usiing Norton Ghost to wipe and restore everything) but it still crashes over and over. One of my friends say it has something to do with a program in "My Computer" but I think it's a hard ware problem. Please help.

P.S. Another of my friends told me about this site. I hope you guys can help!

we're going to need more info

system specs, operating system w/what service packs, and describe what you mean by crashing. any error messages or screens you may be recieving.

Yeah, more info please. Specs, any O/C, what happens when it crashes?

If its crashing over and over, even after however many ghosts. My guess would be hardware, assuming of course the ghost image was taken before the fault appeared.

Well when it crashes, everything stops moving. Then when I try to restart the computer, it gives me this screen with 4 options. Safe Mode, another Safe Mode, Start Windows Normaly, or Start Windows with the last good configuration. But whatever I choose, it doesn't seem to work causing me to wipe the comp. I hope this helps.

so you'll just be on your desktop or a web site and the computer freezes, you can't move you mouse, or hit your windows key, nothing works, and you have to reset it by hitting the reset button or holding down the power button?

i'd start by checking the ram, then on the harddrive and psu.

please list your system specs

That's exactly it! My specs are (it's an EMachine, and yes, I know it sucks) 2.70 GHz, 40GB, 256MB, and Intel Inside Celeron.

About the checking the ram and etc., how do I do that?

Download a program called Memtest86+.
Then run it from either floppy or bootable CD.

Let it run at least 3 loop.
If its error free the your memory is probably ok.

You also need to check your temp & volts.
Plus check for dust bunnies in the heatsinks.

Luck.......... :D

I don't understand what you're saying. I downloaded the program, now what?

you put the program on a floppy disk or a cd

you start your computer and boot from the floppy or cdrom (by selecting the first boot device in the bios)

the program runs and checks your memory for errors, as stated, let the memtest run 3 times and if there are no errors, then the ram probably isn't your problem

First boot device in the bios? I'm not really good with this computer stuff... heh.
