i just got one and was wondering how much of perfomance hit would i get if i orient it the wrong way. The manual says to orient the fan horizontal so the air blows from the fan out the back of case. However since i have a horizontal mounting bracket in can only mount it vertical blowing air out the top. The manual says i should snake the bracket between the heat pipes but its not working out, and my poor heatpipes are being all scratched up.

Take the mobo out of the case and then install the 9500 the way you want. Getting the bracket in the heatpipes is still a bit of a pain this way but not near as bad as trying to do it with the mobo in the case.

If you have no other choice you can mount it with the fan horizontal (blowing vertical) but you will probably run a few degrees hotter than you would with the fan blowing towards the case exhaust. If your PSU has a bottom mounted fan and you mount the HSF so that it's blowing into the PSU fan, then your colling performance hit might not be noticeable.

The bracket will fit, you just have to mess with it some and don't worry about a few small scratches, it's a very close fit.

dude thats leet. i tried for like 30 min to try to do it, was about to throw it against the wall. i see how you did it diagonal, so when you mount it, it wont be perfectly straight. Once you had it bolted on it you twist the cooler to make it straight with the exhaust fan?

Is your Zalman installed backwards? I thought the fan was supposed to direct flow from the RAM/frontside out the back. So the fan should be the other way. Or at least I thought...

an example of my 9500 installed.
i had a little trouble getting the bracket through the heatpipes but it only took one time.
