Help with XP-M and NF2 crashing

i have an albatron NF2 Ultra 400 mobo with a XP 2500+ M and a 512 stick of kingston value ram rated at 400mhz at 2.5cas. I have been OC the chip at 185 X 12 at 1.725 volt and been able to pass every benchmark i throw at it including sandra and cpu burn in.

I run very cool at about 37 C idle and 43C at full load. How ever when i play Battle for Middle earth the computer unexplainably crashes and i dont know why it automatically reboots and i go directly into the bios to recheck my temp and after 15 secs of rebooting the cpu is only 41C.. i dont know what the problem is..any advice would be appreciated. ...Things i have tried include.

Bumping Vcore up and setting ram cas to 3...

Any clue what Voltage my kingston 2.5 cas 3200 value ram can safely run at??

ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated...

now, i could be wrong here, but it sounds like you have put it through 3Dmark, aquamark and sandra, and called it stable.

if you want to prove that something is STABLE, put it through it's paces using memtest and prime.

i also run an NF2 system, and i don't call a given config stable until i can prime it for 12 hours straight.

get it memtest stable, starting from stock settings and working up your overclock a little bit at a time. when you have a reasonable OC, and it passes a full run of memtest default tests, then hammer on it with test #5 for about an hour. if it is still stable, then boot to safe mode and give prime a try.

memtest freezes? probably need more CPU voltage.
memtest gives error messages? probably need more ram or chipset voltage.

suggested CONSERVATIVE memory timings 2.5-4-4-11 (11, since you run NF2. 8 would be better with other chipsets)

if you have already stabilized using memtest and prime, my appologies for posting like this, and then you should look at some of the software troubleshooting forums.
 
o please don't let people start shortening it to DFI................if my handle really needs to be shortened, then just use daishi.

i chose to make the name of my most hated enemy a part of my sig to try and take some ot it's evil power for my own, not so that people would think that i endorse it.

i thought that it was more along the lines of DFI bringer of death, but either works, i suppose.
 
according to btech, the Daishi's (AKA Dire Wolf) name means 'Great Death' in Japanese, just like the Koshi's means 'Small Death'.

Anyone speak Japanese that can confirm? I think DFI Great Death has a ring to it ;)
 
Some Kingston Value Ram cannot boot @ CAS 3. Performance depends what the chips are on it. Take a look. My Kingston single stick of 512MB PC2700 is actually Winbond BH-6 chips and it refuses to run at CAS 3 but I can run 250 2-2-2-11 ... all thanks to DFI!!!!

And yeah, Dai = great (more like big) Shi = death.

what about video card tests? does it crash in any other game? have you tried looping 3dmark for awhile?

hahah...i don't know about the daikatana thing. if 'dai' means great i'm willing to believe 'katana' stands for 'waste of money'.
 
spare: i was reading posts by people like you that convinced me to get a DFI in the first place. i have had nothing but problems with it, a very aggressive cooling system, and i have tried volting things up, which only makes it worst. this board will not top 200 FSB with reasonable prime or game stability. it is not my memory, i have tried different modules, all of whilch OC pretty well in their home systems.

Well, you got a bad board obviously...RMA it back. I love my DFI ut 250 GB Lanparty. Best board I've ever owned. Even the best quality assurance lets a bad egg through every now and then...
 
Homer, I had the exact same problem as you, only I couldn't OC the machine one bit.

It ended up being a bad CPU...it would randomly lock up in games. I replaced the CPU and I was good to go.

Which board did you get? Certain revisions have some lemons as is usual with most manufacturers.
