I have a Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS with Logitech z640 5.1 surround speakers. However, i'm unable to get the 5 chanels to work. All that will ever work are the left and right chanels. I know that the speakers are all plugged in correctly and that i have the latest drivers for my sound card. Is there any other 'special' software that i need to download in order to get everything working? Any other ideas?
 
so you have no center channle right... check to make sure your sound on the speaker box says 5.1 digital.. if so it is 5.1 but only when you plug in the digital input other wise your on a 4.1 setting i had the same problem with mine had to buy that little fiberoptic cable and plug it in to get 5.1
 
Is the audio source a 5.1 source, MP3's are only 2 channel so no centre. I have only got the centre speaker to work for me when playing certain DVD's with 5.12 sound.
 
I do have a center chanel. I have the 5 speakers and a sub. center, left, right, back left, back right, and the sub. As far as mysource, i knew that mp3s were only 2 chanel, but it 5.1 doesn't work either when i watch dvds or play games...
 
What do you use to watch DVD's? Make sure that your comp is set to use 5.1 goto control panel -> Sound and Audio Devices -> "Speaker Settings" the advanced button under the volume tab -> dropdown list select 5.1 surround sound speakers. If that doesnt work then check that none of the outputs/inputs are muted, in the same sound/audio box, on the volume tab, click the topmost advanded tab, make sure all the mute checks are unticked. and the the volume on them is reasonalby high, but i recomend putting the master volume between the middle and the bottom so as to reduce crackles ect. I had the same problem with DVD's when I first got my speakers, I found that I hadnt enabled 5.1 in the power DVD config. If you use Power DVD then in the audio tab of its control panel make sure 6 speakers is selected on the dropdown list and that in the advanced tab dolby pro logic 2 is enabled for movie playing, Hope some of that helped.

BTW: I have never had 5.1 work in any of my games that I have enabled it for so I cant help there.
 
Have you tried the speaker test? It's one of the Audigy 2 ZS programs called 'Speaker Settings'. Make sure it's set to 5.1, then try the test. If set up correctly, sound should come from the appropriate speaker.

If the speaker test works, then it's your settings for the DVD player and games that are at fault.
 
where do you get the speaker test software? Is it off the creative site? ... 'cause i looked on their site and couldn't find anything under the downloads for my device that had any kind of test.

Yeah, i did... and they were all as you said they should be. As far as dvd software, i just use media player clasic... do you know much about that and its settings? i looked in there, and i got lost.
 
I have the same setup, well almost. I have an Audigy 2 non ZS and the Logi Z640.

Before I start, are you SURE that you plug the 3 speaker wires to the sound card correctly? The instruction sucks, they said that you need to just plug the cables onto the corresponding colors, but WTF, the audigy 2 and such are not color coded, lol. So yeah, double check that.

Once you know for sure that everything is plugged correctly, check if you have the Audigy 2 softwares installed by heading to Start menu, and go to the Creative Audigy 2 folder. There should be one called Creative Speaker Settings. Click on that, and when the screen pops open under Speaker Selection, click the scroll down button and pick 5.1.

How is one meant to know the correct order? What order are the 3 colors meant to be?
 
Starting from the port that is nearest to the Firewire input, this is the order:

Orange, Black, then Green

Took me 10 minutes to figure that crap out. Had to go to the speaker settings and manually have the lady say it out loud, blah!
 
cool thanks... unfortunatly, i won't be able to try that yet because i had to RMA my ram... but thanks for the order!

HERE'S A BETTER EXPLANATION:

1 Where your EAX folder should be.
2 Self-explanitory.
3 Make sure that box is unchecked.
4 Pick CMSS2 for movies
5 Pick Stereo Surround for Music
6 Self-explanitory.
7 5.1 with the box checked.
8 The CMSS tab in the EAX CONSOLE.
9 Check that box.
10 Quick jump to your speaker settings from the EAX Console

And the arrow without the number, use that to check your channels are properly inputted.
