I've been getting BSODs and random lockups and CTDs from games that also lead up to system lockups. Making it more difficult to neutralize is the fact that I built this entire system at once so I can't say its X component from recent upgrade. Im also running everything at stock clock and memory is currently set to run at 1333 even though its rated to run at 1600.
It's usually between 3 different messages that i get in the BSODs:
IRQ NOT LESS THEN OR EQUAL (more often then the others)
MEMORY MANAGEMENT
....cant remember the third (I will update this if I see it again)
On lockups the screen will either just freeze and do nothing, or go garbled grey. If it does the grey, it restarts after about 5 seconds but if it just freezes it will sit like that for about 30-45 seconds and then reset (if I havent forced one).
One thing to note, is that I recently upgraded from XFX 5870 in CF to 6970s in CF. Still get the same behavoir as before but now I get a new BSOD message that is related to a file named atikmpag.sys. Im assuming that this new one has to do with immature drivers on AMD's part...though thats just a guess based off filename and this not happening till the new cards were put in.
I'm guessing it has something to do with the memory, though ive ran memtest on each individual stick overnight (8 hours minimium) and another test with all sticks in at once with each passing just fine.
I've also tried changing the BIOS settings from auto to manual input and settings the timings according to memory specs (9-9-9-24 2T 1.5v) with no change, ive also tried bumping the voltage up to 1.6 to see if that has any effect...to which it doesnt.
Could it be the motherboard is crapping out? Will these cards not work properly running at x8 instead of x16 (MB only supports x8 with 2 cards)?
