I have two 9800gx2 folding right now, and I want to crank up the shaders to help increase my ppd.
However im not a gamer and never had a need to OC a graphics card, so I dont really know what Im doing.
Could I underclock the Core and memory, and OC the shaders?

What speeds are some of yall that have these cards running?

i wouldnt bother underclocking the gpu/vram because they do actually have an effect on your PPD.. theres no real world benefit to overclocking the gpu when folding due to the little PPD it adds with much higher temps.. same goes for underclocking the loss of PPD to actual temp drop isnt worth it.. underclocking it you may drop it 2C but lose 50-100PPD per core..

I've got my 9800GX2's set to 550|1750|800. I'm getting just shy of 5K PpD per GPU Core. I'm also using 182.08 and have been rock solid steady for 4 weeks (and counting). Temps vary depending on which card (closest to CPU and middle card are always hot)

Yea these GX2's definately run hot.
Much hotter than the 295 i had.

Im not too worried about it because my case is a rackmount server case and I think it has jet engines for fans, so it has better airflow than anything else I could put it in.
These are simply for folding, no gaming so Im not worried about any kind of other BS, just PPD.
Trying to break into the OCP top 100 :D

The shader steps are at 1512, 1566, 1620, 1674, 1728, 1782, 1836.
Some of my GX2's will run at the 1782 step but not 100% stable.
All of them run 100% stable at the 1728 one.
So I use RivaTuner to set them all at 1730.
I don't bother to underclock the core or memory speeds.
The 768 pointers give me ~5,280 PpD, 178.24 drivers.
Temps are around the low 80's.

Downside is that RivaTuner only overclocks one GPU at startup.
So you need to manually set all the GPU's.
Also you need to check the fans are running at 90-100% or whatever speed you have set them to.
Sometimes RivaTuner doesn't speed them up at startup as well.

Luck .......... :D
