Hi,

I'm putting together a small form factor PC for audio-video content creation, so no fancy 3D required whatsoever - just decent 2D performance. nVidia's hardware overlay processes YUV incorrectly, so ATI it is.

SilverStone SST-SG02B
Silverstone NT06-E x5 Copper Heatpipe Bare heatsink
500W Silverstone ST50EF-Plus-SC PSU
Terratec Aureon 7.1 PCI Sound Card
Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R iG33 Motherboard
OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping
Pioneer DVR-215DBK 20X SATA DVD±RW
Sapphire X1550 128MB
Samsung HD753LJ 750GB Hard Drive x 2

The aim here is to have a portable unit that can run discrete graphics and a PCIe x4 expansion card (hence the Gigabyte board) and to be as quiet as possible.

A collection of questions:

1. Can the NT-06 Evolution and Silverstone PSU handle the heat from a G0 Q6600?
2. If so, could it handle the Q6600 if it was OCed to 9x333/ 3.0GHz
3. Any other HSF combos that could handle the OC and would fit in the Sugo?
4. Any recommendations on RAM that could handle 1066MHz?

Any advice much appreciated!

They suggest using a PSU with a 135mm fan for the 6600 (I am doing that with my Q9300 and NT06, and it works decently well for an SFF). I suggest using an E8500 as you can get one for the same price, and it has a much higher clock speed, and should be a fair amount cooler than the Q6600 (this is a big issue on the SG01 and SG02 without custom cooling solutions, I found that out with my build).

Although I now use an SG03, I used to use an SG01, and I had a Zalman CNPS8700NT, it was only moderately effective in my application of a quad core. I also used the crossflow fan. The whole setup wasn't that quiet.

Right now I have an SG03, two 120mm fans, a Silverstone 700W case with the 135mm fan and the NT06. It is pretty quiet, I can hear it until the 120mm fans spin up all the way, or my nVidia card turns its fan on full blast either.

I am using GeIL Esoteria DDR2-800 RAM, and it works just fine, even with my 1333MHz FSB. I have 8GB in dual channel. It scored a 5.9 in Windows' Experience Index for what that's worth lol.

Do you have the NT06 or the NT06-E? The latter has two additional heat pipes and TDP is apparently rated at 135w. I can't seem to find a 700w Silverstone PSU available in the UK - just a hugely expensive 'Zeus' 750w PSU.

The software I use gets a huge performance boost with four cores versus two, but I'll attempt to emulate E8500 performance by upping FSB on my QX6850 and using core affinity to turn off two cores on the applicatoin.

The intel stock cooler would handle a Q6600 @ 3.0 with little problem.

Why 1066mhz ram? Running with a 333 fsb you're only going to be at 666mhz on the ram. Your DDR2 800 sticks will handle that no problem.
