So the other day I was turning the computer off, and as it was closing all the programs, the computer froze. No big, happened before. I pressed the power button in until it turned off, and turned it on again later. But things were different...

...to start things off, it told me that the computer was not shut down correctly before, and it gave me the option of booting into Safe Mode or Normal, the first time I've seen this option in XP.

...second, regardless of what option I chose, I would get a BSOD. It said that there was a problem with my mountable_boot_disk. Oh crap...then it got worse...

...it told me to turn off shadowing or something in the BIOS. At the WinXP load screen (the one where the green/blue bar at the bottom scrolls from left to right), I press every single F key, multiple times, and I still dont get into the BIOS, I get the BSOD first.

Please oh please tell me that the computer is fixable, and how to. I tried using the WinXP install disk to see if that would do anything, but I cant get it to boot from CD before BIOS.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH POONS! if all else fails format :D but since u probably dont wanna lose all ur shit pop in the windows disk and go to bios (delete key not backspace) on startup, then select it to boot from cd-rom instead of floppy first. pop in ur windows xp disk and run a windows repair, so u go to install windows and press repair, dont use the recovery councle that normaily will not kill a bsod, just install a fresh version of windows (repair current windows installation) it wont kill any of ur programs and will always fix the problem with a BSOD if u dont wanna go through everything and try to fix it the hard way, this way only takes like a half hour to do and its simplified for the most s-ped users :D good luck :D

you all had me pumped, until i pressed the delete key while windows was loading, but i still got the BSOD. :(

btw, it's mountable_boot_volume, not disk...however, when i started it up in safe mode, everything loaded up until agp440.sys, then it gave me the BSOD...

you need to hit delete before windows starts loading to get into bios. Or F2 in some cases

edit: XeRo_Dark above are you sure you didn't me powns? not poons

just do what my big post said to do that will fix the problem, dont bother using safe mode

it worked, winxp is being set up right now, i'll keep you guys updated, periodically. Thank you all so much!

okay something weird happened, i did the recovery, and it basically said the recovery recovers your computer, then it told me to type exit to quit the recovery thing and restart the computer

Did you go to the recovery console or to a repair install of windows?
It sounds like you just went to the recovery console and did nothing.

I went to the recovery console, the only instructions it gave me was to type exit...

okay i didnt find a repair option, my only options are to install windows on the current partition, is that what i have to choose?

install on the current partion then on the next screen it should give you the option of hitting 'R' for a repair install

but its making me reformat my partition first...

lemme go more in depth, i choose to install winxp, then i agree to the license agreement, then i have to choose a partition to install it on, once i pick one, i have to format that partition, either quick or slow. no where do i see the option to repair except for the first screen, where i choose to install winxp.

umm.. that would not be good... i am outta ideas but that should work just look for hit R for a repair install

hmm...thanks man, anyone else know?

yes, thats the easiest way to fix a BSOD, but yah the reson that your getting the bsod is because, your startup files (dlls, and required setup operations) are ither dammaged, missing or just fuckzored up. generaly theres 2-4 ways of fixing the problem

1. Format

2. Windows repair

3. Take out your drive and pop it into another computer and run scandisk on it

4. Last to good configuration that worked, setting (from os selection screen; what you use to select safe mode with) Hold F8 on startup to get there, but obviously you would probably know how to get into the OS selection screen.

Your bios has nothing to do with what is wrong with your computer right now, its having a problem with booting windowsm, not your drives or the bios.

yeah, i understand that, at first i couldnt get into bios, cause i was doing it wrong.

however, i dont want to reformat, is it possible to just repair? also, is it possible to repair it in the recovery console?

not sure if this was already said, prolly was but im just trying to hlep..

hold down the delete key (its in the set of keys above the arrow keys) AS SOON AS YOU TURN ON THE COMPUTER. NOT when windows laods..
