HELP with screw hell!

Hi, I'm getting a new DFI nforce4 SLI board soon for the new G70 and I encounter a huge problem with my plans. A screw on my motherboard is stripped to a riser on my case and it won't come out, all it does is turn freely in the riser. On top of that, I think the riser is stripped in the motherboard tray. Never buying Coolermaster again! I've tried everything from various screwdrivers to plyers. Is there anyway to get out my Neo2 board without damaging it or the case? I really wouldn't like to throw away a perfectly functional motherboard or a $150 case. Help would be greatly appreciated.
 
y cant u just get a drill and drill the riser out.. just be carful the drill bit isnt to big or u will make the hole in the mobo tray bigger.

after that just use vice grips and a screw driver

I did this to two screws in my old crap case... I'll try to remember how I got them out...
 
this happened to me befor as well....

do any of the thread on the riser come out the back of the mobo tray if so get some plyers and hold that tightly and screw comes out...

an other attempt is to set it down in the case and tighten the screw as much as possible with out dammaging anything and it might get enough hold and try unscrewing it normaly.
 
that would work but if the riser is also stripped on the mobo, it wont.
 
If he can get the mobo out, then he can use a wrench or pliers to hold the riser while unscrewing.
 
Lokk I had this happen before just take the covers off grab the standoff on the backside of the board with pliers and unscrew the screw.if the screw is crossthreaded in the standoff this won't work it will be too tight then just drill it out from backside untill it comes loose from mobo tray. it will work and only mess up one hole just use very little pressure you don't want to go through and hit the board once it comes off the tray pliers will be easy to apply to the standoff.

That happened to me a couple times (I'm never buying a clear case again).

If the mount is close to the edge use a pair of needle nose pliers to hold the stand-off, find a drill bit just a little larger than the shaft/shank/whatever of the screw. Drill through the head of the screw until you hit the shaft below (be very careful and use very light pressure). Once you clear through the head of the screw and hit the shaft the head will just pop off and you can pull the board off.

If you can't get needle nose under the board use a Dremel (or other high-speed rotary tool) using the same method (a bit just a mm or two larger than that shaft of the screw). Tap gently through the head of the screw until you cut through into the shaft. Again, the board will just lift out then.

After doing that keep in mind you've created a bit of steel/aluminum/whatever dust which will have collected on the board. Be sure to clean it off very will with canned gas, a paintbrush, etc.
 
try pulling up on the motherboard while turning the screw, use as little down pressure as possible while turning.

I am assuming you mean the threads on the screw are stripped and not the + where you put the screw driver, might help if you cleared this up.
 
3 Words. Very carefull Dremeling. :D

Just cut off the standoff, and then trim it to the poin that it comes out.
