help with reinstall.

hello, my laptop is a toshiba p25-s607 running window media edition. i'm wanting to reinstall the os but both the keyboard and cd rom are broken. i overcome the broken keyboard by using an external keyboard, it connects via ps2 but i put an adapter on it to so i can plug it into a usb port because laptop has no ps2 port. i also use an external usb cd rom in place of the broken internal cd rom. my question is, during the reinstall process, are my external keyboard and cd rom going to work? my concern is once i format hd then go to reinstall os, my external keyboard and/or external cd rom wont be recognized or there wont be any drivers installed for them or for some reason they just wont work and ill be left with a useless laptop with no os. thanks, tom.
 
If the BIOS on the laptop is pretty recent, then you should be able to access it and have the USB devices operate under the BIOS instead of the operating system. If you haven't done so already, before you reformat your drive, go into your BIOS, search through your advanced BIOS settings page (or elsewhere depending on your laptop's BIOS) and search for a setting that goes like "USB Support via" (the exact working may vary) and switch it to BIOS. Because your keyboard and internar CD-ROM are broken you will have to do this before you reformat or you may not be able to access them afterwards.
 
Here are some more details: If your laptop has Phoenix Award-BIOS, go to the "Integrated Peripherals" tab, then highlight the "OnChip PCI Device" tab and press Enter. In the submenu, highlight the tabs marked "USB Keyboard Support Via" and "USB Mouse Support Via" and make sure that BIOS is selected for both of them. If you don't have that BIOS, there should be something similar located on the tab where you can edit either PCI and/or USB controllers.
