Hey All,
I am new to this forum, well besides a few posts :) I had followed the guide for OCing a e4300 not to long ago and was able to reach 2.7ghs stable of stock air. I recently bought a new q6600 and Tuniq Tower 120. After the installation all seemed ok i was gaming sweetly and all was running well and still is! Well i just installed Core temp and orthos and figured i would start my OC on this bad boy only to find i am sitting at 60 C on idle hitting 70-77 on load with no OC????? What the heck is going on? I know the cooler is seated properly and on nice and tightly. What could be causing this heat!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

System Spec's

Q6600 @ Stock
Tuniq Tower 12cm @ 2000rpm
GA-P965-DS3 rev3.3 with newest bios
2GB G,Skill DDR2 800Mhz
Evga 8800GTS 320/320
Hauppage Pvr-150
TR2 500Watt PSU
Thermaltake Soprano DX

Have you tried re-mounting/repasting yet?

It could be the heatsink isn't making proper contact with the processor,

Also if you are using TOO much thermal paste that could also hinder it.

Just a few pointers to start you out with, I'm sure more people will chime in pretty soon.

I never get over 72c running 100% load 24/7on stock air. Redo your mount on the TT is the first step, Then report back.

Reinstall the Tuniq 120. My Q6600 @ 3.2ghz rarely hits 60c with all four cores on a load.

Definitely sounds like a bad mount and/or too little/much thermal paste. I hit 45C @ load on stock clocks and idle around 24C, both these temps are with all system and CPU fan at the lowest RPM setting.

I'd reseat it and reapply the paste, @3.6 I get load temps of 60C...

another vote for re-do the heatsink and paste. My q6600 runs at 3ghz and when all four cores are on load, I don't go above 55c.

I have a Q6600 G0 stepping, OC'ed to 3.01 (334x9) and it never gets hotter than 45 on full load. I am using CoreTemp to monitor heat, because speedfan gives me readings that are way too low to be true.
