I am currently at a loss of my current power supply power cord that connects to the electrical socket. Reasons do not matter, but I am guessing that the PSU has a Wattage of 350. Now, I need a PSU power cord and I have one connected to an old computer (not sure of PSU wattage but It's below 350W) that I was considering of using for a substitute for now. I need to use my computer for reasons that don't matter but I NEED it today. Both computers are DELL (I don't think that matters though) and I am unsure of the PSU companies. I was wondering if I could conenct the old power cord to my newer computer. My "newer" computer is from early 2003, and my "older" computer is from around mid-2001. Both DELLs.

Now, I know DELL is bad but I got it before I educated myself about computers. Nontheless, I need to use it, and was wondering if there would be a wattage problem if I used a different powercord. I was also wondering if system failure could occur and my hardware gets fried, that'd be horrible. But do any of you know if using a power cord for lesser wattage power supplies for higher wattage power supplies spell bad trouble or is it ok? Please let me know, I really appreciate it, thanks.

Please I need help, no one is reading! Help me please! I need to access my computer it is very urgent!!!!!!!! Files on that computer I must access and among other things I must do. Please I need this, it is urgent. Thanks in advance.

Unless it's a spindly piece of junk, I'd use it. Regardless of the psu output rating, most brands use the same cord throughout their product line. Many times the older cord will be of a higher quality. To test it, start the computer and see if the cord gets warm, if not you should be good. The comp should turn off if the psu doesn't have the juice, not fry components.

OK... So the power cord will only fit in the PSU if the PSU is made by same manufacturer? It fits but I don't know if it's same manufacturer. Does it matter?

Thank you very much, that comment really helped me.

no most are standard and interchangable
its the other end that is typically different there being so many different wall socket configurations worldwide
of course its unlikely any one person would have anything different unless they bought different computers in different countries :p

its safe to use
there are better and lesser quality cords but speaking generally there isnt much of a difference

Okay, thanks for the help, I'm gonna go try it out now. Thanks again man, you helped A LOT!
