Help with picking good 24" LCD

I have been reading awhile on these forums, especially, in this section but I am still not sure which monitor is the best for my purposes. I plan on using this in my dorm room connected with a ps3 or and xbox 360 depending on which I decide to get. The idea is to be able to run either at 1080P. I am a quality and performance freak when it comes to electronics so I am really picky about screen clarity, viewing angles, and the such. I just wanted to ask the more educated members here if they can clear things up for me.

For ease I set up this link of neweggs listed 24" monitor: Monitor List

Keep in mind that an addition to this list would be gateway's 24" monitor. Also, if there are any up and coming panels that look promising, could someone in the know inform me?

All help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: Those of you that have similar setups to what I am looking at, could you please post picks and your experiences? Thanks.

BenQ FP241W (after the 1:1 fix) If you can afford it, otherwise Dell 2407 WFP. Samsung 24 incher is just.....

For your purpose, the Dell is out of the question if you want to take advantage of your console's graphic abilities. Any way you go, you're going to have to sacrifice some video performance to get the range of video inputs your desire.

My advice is to purchase the Gateway from Best Buy, and if the BenQ ends up fixing its 1:1 mapping issues, return the Gateway and order the BenQ.

what's wrong with the dell 2407 for use with an xbox 360? are you referring to the problems people are having with the component inputs? if so, would using the xbox 360 hd vga cable be good enough to get a good image quality?

Well, the component on the Dell doesn't accept 1080p (same for Gateway but not clear if it's an Xbox or monitor issue) and doesn't do 1:1 scaling over VGA (which the Gateway does).

i use the vga on the dell 2407 @ 1080p... it works great people are just too picky when it comes to stuff like this... for $600 u can't beat it. yes u can't 1:1 it but the strech isn't noticable at all...

I have been doing some more reading and a lot of people are having problems with the gateway monitors it seems. Especially with flickering and stuff during motion and what-not. I heard the BenQ is a great monitor if only for the 1:1. How much of a difference does the stretching make if you are running at 1080P? Is it really noticeable? What would you guys recommend between the BenQ and the Gateway? Does anyone have any shots of what 1080P looks like on a monitor @ 1:1 and when its stretched?

The Dell is definately the best deal since Dell discounts like crazy and often. It does have two issues though, the lack of scaling and you need to turn the sharpness down to 30 every time you switch inputs to get the best image quality with the XBOX 360 over VGA.

I currently have the Dell, but I'm tempted to check out the gateway mainly to see how good the DCDi chip improves image quality.
