Ive been trying to overclock my e4400 but i seam to have hit a wall. its running fine at 315fsb (3.15Ghz) but wont boot at 320 fsb. ive also tryed 340 and that also wont boot. I have tryed running the CPU with only a 6X multiplier at 320 but that also didnt help.
The ram is underclocked with a 2X ram multiplier. my ram is rated to run at 667Mhz.
the CPU is at 1.35Volts
All the other voltages are +0.1Volts
The PCI frequency is at 102Mhz
The rest of my hardware is in my sig.

Thanks for any help

i have tryed up to 1.4Volts and im relutant to go any higher as my temps under full load are near 65C

That's really high. Maybe you need to get better airflow. At 1.4 I can do 8 x 400 on my e6420. But to get it over 415 fsb, I need to up it to 1.45. After you get better flow and cooling to your system, then you can try a higher voltage. Is your ambient like 35C or something? Mine idles at 30C @ 1.42v and loads at 53C

Whoa, just read that you're on water cooling. How could you be up so high?? Do the e4xxx series carry more heat?

where are you reading this? do you mean the divider? ram doesnt have a multiplier. your ram is rated to 333fsb (in 1:1 divider) as long as temps are not a problem, increase motherboard voltages some more.

im sorry my mistake, i ment divider. what i was trying to say is that the ram is running slower than its rated speed.

i think its called DRAM Frequency or something on that board, set this number to 533 (while on 266FSB, ) this will lock your ram in 1:1. your ram will still be underclocked untill you get to 333fsb. you should be able to hit 350fsb with maybe a little ram voltage increase, assuming your CPU can go higher, at 3.15ghz your about to the limit of that 4400.

To set the divider, you select one on a drop down list like 2, 2.66, etc. and the e4400 stock fsb is 200Mhz.
this is confusing!

Anyway, i dont think we need to touch the ram as it is slightly underclocked until, like you said it hits 333 which i cant reach atm.

I did manage to get 333 fsb with a 6X mulit on the CPU but it was nowhere near stable.

ok i found a picture of the bios. you were right, though gigabyte mislabled the option, horray crappy translation. it is the "system memory multiplier" and you should set it to "2" for a 1:1 divider - yea little confusing. but the stock fsb is 266 (cpu host frequency)

are you talking about the FSB? The E4xxx have a 200Mhz fsb and a higher multiplyer than the other C2Ds. The e4400 has a 200FSB and a 10X multi which gives 2Ghz.
If i have the wrong end of the stick again i appoligise.

I am currently running at 250 fsb with the ram set to 2 like you mentioned so that means my ram is running at 500Mhz?

Im just running orthos to see if it is stable, then ill put it up to 2.66 which i think will get the ram up to stock speed. 250*2.66 = 665Mhz.

Am i working this out right?

Update

I've been trying for 3Ghz again, first i tryed 300fsb with 10X multi but orthos errored so im now trying 333fsb with 9x multi, it has been going 12 minutes now, not exactly proven stable but hey we'll see.

Well i have just checked my rams timmings and there running at the rated timmings.
but nevermind, i have been running orthos for nearly 2 hours at 333fsb and im cautiously optomistic.

Anyone know where to find the CPU 'stepping' so i can add this to the overclocking database?

Im getting compleatly differant temps with TAT, Speed Fan and Core temp.
at the moment the temps are 67, 55 and 70 respectivly. (full load)
Which one should i use and what temp is considdered too high?

Most people will agree not to use speedfan. go with the higher 2.

Well after following the "Gigabyte P965-XXX overclocking and BIOS tweaking Guide" by BillParrish

i have got my CPU to 3.2Ghz :D and im slowly raising the cpu voltage and testing with orthos.
im at 1.431 volts atm but im still worried about the temps. its running at a very hot 70C per core. (coretemp)

Thankyou bill.
