Help with overclocking Opteron (crashes)

Ok, so i have gotten my Opteron 148 processor to go up to 2.8 Ghz. However, this seems to be the cap from what i can tell without adding a little extra juice to the cpu core voltage. So here is my question, i want to add just enough voltage so that my processor can hit the 3.0 mark and that is all. Here is the problem, im totally confused about the options given to me past the multipliers, and fsb and ratios used in normal overclocking that are offered in my DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D's BIOS. I think that the thing im looking for is called CPU Core VID or something like that. Is this correct? If so, by changing that number, is it telling my cpu to add that much extra voltage or is it telling my cpu to run at the specified voltage, because the 1.4V that it is running at now is sorta high on the list of options it gives you, so i was thinking that it might be an add on, but idk. Does anyone know what im talking about or have any suggestions or answers for me?

Also, there is another VID control below that and its like special control or something and it gives me a whole bunch of percentages, what is this?

Take a look at the overclocking stickey at the top of the page. It has some general terms and overclocking methods that should help you out. Also, be sure you have a good hs/f setup.

that one isn't very well tailored to a64's imo. the one in my sig is better

kill4killin.. the dfi's voltage is actually much more straightfoward than most people think..

there is the VID.. which is considered the base voltage
then the special VID. whatever this is set to, multiply the BID by it to get the final voltage

say you have 1.4v set and 113%...
113% of 1.4v = 1.13 * 1.4 = 1.582v ;)

try to use as low of a % as you can get away with to get your desired voltage :D
