Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me overclock my rig to 3.6 ghz. I don't really need intense 4.0 speeds, just a boost of about 1 ghz. I have tried a few settings but either the system seems to be slower but does better in benchmarks (?) or it won't boot at all. I have a P6X58D Premium motherboard from Asus and an i7 920 D0. Any other specs I think are in my sig.

Also, I tried modifying the timing of my ram to 6-7-6-24 but only 2/6 gigabytes identify in the BIOS then (not sure why)

EDIT: Have it on DOCP mode @ 3.2 ghz right now. RAM timings are just 9-9-9-24 (default) I have the multiplier set to 20 (I could increase to 21 maybe if it would help) and RAM is at 1604 mhz at 1.65v Doing a stability test and might up it a bit more if things seem stable.

Try 20 x 170 and bump up your vcore and vtt a little at a time until it boots. Memory at 8 times.

I'm doing 21 multiplier, ~1700mhz for ram at 1.65v and the CPU is at 1.20v. I have 3.4 ghz about now which is pretty nice. I actually am running cooler than before which is odd. I used to hit about 75C in p95 instantly but now it takes 10 minutes to get to 70C. I turned on load line callibration and disabled spread spectrum.

Is it bad to have the RAM at 1700 instead of 1600? The only option down is around 1300 mhz but things seem a bit slow at that speed, and 1700 things are much snappier. As long as I leave the volts at 1.65 will it be safe?

EDIT: I did what you said with the 20 multiplier and 190 and the RAM is below 1600 at 1.65v so I think that should be fine now too. It's at around 3.8! Time to fool around with the CPU voltages now until it's stable and as cool as I can get it. I have it at 1.2250 right now but it's only been running p95 for about 1 minute so way too early to call it safe.
