I just got an Intel D975XBX2 for my birthday from my brother and don't have a clue about it. I'm currently using an old 866 p3 and really don't know anything about the newer hardware. Do I have to use an ATI brand card with it, or can I go Nvidia. I'd like to be able to game with it, and would like any suggestions I could get. I don't think I'll do crossfire or SLI yet, maybe in the future. Or should I just wait for the new ATI DX10 card? It'll probably got a small fortune though. How about operating system? Should I do Vista or stick with XP? Any help would be great. Thanks Guys!

You can use both types of video cards on all motherboards I know of. For what card you should get, wait for the 8xxx budget cards to come out. They will be the same price as some of the decent cards now and will have DX10 capabilities. As for os I haven't had a chance to test it out so thats your choice.

You do not have to use an ATI card just because you have an Intel board. nVidia cards will work just fine. As to which card you should use, that's really up to you. The ATI x1950xtx is a great card, you could also go for a 7950GX2, it all really depends on what your gaming expectations are.

As far as the os goes, that is really up to you. Currently, I'm dual booting XP and Vista, and personally, I really like Vista, but again, that's up to you. The only real reason to go with Vista will be DX10, and of course, we'll need to wait until DX10 titles become available to really see how much of a difference that will make, and how soon it will become worth the investment to invest in DX10 hardware...

My brother is going to give me his bf2 and bf2142. I would like to play them with all the eye candy enabled. I also am looking forward to crysis when it comes out. That really looks like a graphics card killer. Maybe dual cards are the way to go?
