Help with new spearkers...

I currently have Altec Lansing 4.1s from about 1999 or 2000. Im sure speakers have improved a lot since then. I love these speakers, but I think they are starting to die. Randomly, the speakers will just start crackling really bad then I just kick the subwoofer and sometimes it fixes it.

What are some good speakers that would be like these? I dont want something thats like 20$ or that costs 500$. Also im looking for a 4.1 or a 5.1. I dont have enough room for 7.1. So far, Ive heard that Logitech and Klipsh are both really good speakers but they are also pretty expensive.... So basically, I just want some suggestions on what speakers are nice! Thank you!

The 3 Big contenders for pc speakers atm are Logitech, Creative Labs, and Klipsch.

Off hand I can tell you the best I've ever had was Creative labs (I own the Gigaworks system which retails for around 399 now in some places) they have a kickass subwoofer system w./ downfiring ect. The sound is awesome and if you put the volume to the max and left the room you can hear it from about 2-3 houses down, gets so damn loud.

as far as logitech goes, they're okay. Previously I owned a 4.1 system that they made which was good at the time, but now obviously better things came out. Their high end models like Z-5500 + are very good however.

Klipsch is a no. My friend owns the klipsch 5.1 system that he bought with a computer that was bundled with HL2. The lifespan on these speakers is terrible, the quality is decent but godamn they die fast as hell.

your friend must've gotten the old promedias. the new promedia ultras are much more reliable. also to the op.

if you want sound quality. either the klipsch or creative. creative has the better satellites. klipsch has the better sub
