I am looking for a New Graphics card to go with my system below.

I am looking to spend around $320 max. I was looking at the x800Xl and the 6800GT.
I play Doom 3. Cs, Cs source and Hl2 as well as BF2 and Farcry.

What do you guys recommend for my system.
 
OK, I will actually try to be some help :)

I have a similar system (check sig), and I went with the 6800GT. I love the card. So far, its been able to handle every thing I have thrown at it. The x800xl is a good card, but it is native to PCI-E, its just that they adapted it to AGP as well. I know if you had a mobo with PCI-E, the x800xl is the way to go, but for an AGP system, 6800gt seems to take the cake. I would look at getting a BFG or an eVGA, but would lean towards the BFG if they are both the same price.

I love my 6800GT. Totally forgot that the X800XL was PCI-E. Probably should've read his post all the way before replying. I'm in the middle of putting together an AMD 939socket/PCI-E system, so I'm looking towards the X800XL for myself, due to the price difference between the two cards. My current 6800GT plays everything without any problems. I'll be snagging another 6800GT if I can end up affording it.

I apologize for my previous post. It seems I've committed a horrible, horrible mistake.
 
I agree with above. My 6800GT is a great card. I have zero reason to get another one for quite some time.
 
Its fine guys. AMD is just not a product for me. I am a college student and as Now i can afford a new graphics card. I aint got the money for a whole new system. if I did it would have a Intel in it anyway.

I suggest you remove the "I will never buy AMD" from your sig though. It simply shows you as a complete fool for not buying a cheaper, yet better product. Just a thought.
 
Il pass, il be a fool. Knowing I have a better product.

I would choose a cyrix chip over any top of the line amd, even if it were for free. I just dont support them.

Only area intell beats AMD is in the hyperthreading tech, and that is short lived.
 
what, I dont like there products. I think they suck.

its that simple.

Ive used an amd 64 3700+

It cant even compare to my p4. The chip may be faster but it is no where neer and smooth and they all feel choppy.

anyway they breakdown under hard miltitasking.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion but hating a company's entire product line based on your experience with one chip doesn't seem too smart to me. What if it was a defective part? What if you had a bad motherboard? You say that all AMD CPUs feel 'choppy' - I assume you've tried an X2-series chip then? Yeah, they're extremely expensive but I'm trying to make a point about AMD products here. :)
 
Unlike these other people I'm willing to give you my 2 cents.I would go with the 6800gt.

If you're referring to the X800XL being cheaper than the 6800GT then a quick glance at Pricewatch.com reveals the opposite to be true......

X800XL 256MB AGP - $316
6800GT 256MB AGP - $301

But I can get a $250 X800XL PCIe easy.

Well, he said he's looking for an AGP card to go with his system so the PCIe pricing is kind of irrelevant here. But I'm interested to know which retailer offers the X800XL PCIe for $250, that's $34 cheaper than the best one on Pricewatch and $49 less than the MSRP.

Yeah. :(

It use to be my main stop until I started finding deals on sites much better than what pricwatch was listening, no clue why its getting so bad these days.
