Hi, im trying to burn an .iso file but every time i try to burn it it gives me an error- Burn proccess failed at 4x(600KB/s)

I am burning it as an image file and i have tried to slow it down (from 48x to 4x) and nothing is working.

:( any advice?

ok, thanks, ill try it..what excatly does that mean?

i look for DMA in the help file and nothing comes up

1. right click on "my computer"
2. select "properties" from the menu tha pops up
3. click on the "hardware" tab
4. click the "device manager" button
5. find the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" and expand it by clicking the "+" to the left of it
6. double click on the "primary IDE channel" icon that just appeared
7. click on the "advanced settings" tab
8. make sure that the "current transfer mode" for "device 0" and "device 1" are not "PIO"
9. repeat steps 6,7 and 8 for "secondary IDE channel"

basically, DMA mode is faster than PIO mode. if the CDRW is stuck in PIO mode somehow, that is probably why it isn't burning correctly.

Thanks man, i did learn something...ATM im trying to burn it..again...and its all of DMA when available but it says currect transfre mode is PIO, which means the file im writing is writing in PIO

How can i change that?

edit: Hmmm, at 4x i was able to complete the writing process: however the files were not there and the disk was empty. I was going through my comp so i should see SOMETHING

Anyway i tried with a totally different iso file so im sure its the process and not the file: meaning the file im writing isnt the problem, the way its written is

uninstall the IDE drivers by right clicking on "Primary IDE channel" and "secondary IDE channel" and selecting "uninstall."

reboot your computer, and they should reinstall by themselves. check to see if the devices are in PIO or DMA mode.

by the way, welcom to the forums!

Thanks felix, ill do that

:D Thanks for the welcome, ill probly be pretty active hear between helping out with things i know and i have plenty of problems, lol

i'm not sure what else to tell you.

list your system specs, and maybe something will come up.

XP home
2.5 ghz pentium 4
1 gig of RAM
128mb nVida gfx card
48x CD-RW burner, it checks out..i think its fine
52x CD-Rom drive

anything else?

so it's still stuck in PIO mode, correct?

try downloading updated chipset and IDE drivers for your motherboard.

this is killing me man.....still wont work

maybe im just not fdoing this right at all

how do i make a CD out of a ISO file, maybe thats the problem

you didn't answer my question about PIO mode.

is the drive in PIO mode or DMA? if it's still in PIO mode, that is your problem.

yes, it still is in PIO mode when writing...it says to use DMA when possible but everytime i write with nero its using POI....

try uninstalling nero and reinstalling it. are you trying to burn to a cdr or cdrw? maybe the disc is corrupt. i've had corrupt discs before that didn't burn. they were memorex. and not just one of them, almost half of them in the box where corrupt. i was broke one week and thought i could get by with some cheap stuff, guess i was wrong. i'll never buy that name again.

rive im alsmot positvie your right..the disks ARE memorex and i think theyre messed up, i cant burn anything to them!! i got one CD to work!

im never buyinng memorex again, thanks for telling me that man

hahah, hell yeah, no problem man. now that you mention that's what you have, that would be my guess. i remember when i bought my box of memorex and couldn't get them to work not too long ago. i was like WTH. lol. But I was just burning TDK's a couple days before so once I tried a few more of the memorex discs in the box and they didn't work, but then finally got a couple to work, i knew that was it. I've bought new TDK discs now and haven't had a problem since. :D ;)

wow i got one to work but all the rest dont so i think that must be the problem

if the drive is still in PIO mode, that is your problem. media is secondary at this point, you need to figure out how to get your drive into DMA mode.

basically, in PIO mode data can't be transfered as fast and it uses more CPU power.
