help with my videocard

Im planning of replacing my videocard
before anything else here's the specs of my cpu

processor: athlon II X4
board: gigabyte ma785GM-US2H
VC: Sapphire Radeon HD 5870
PSU: corsair HX620w
RAM: 2x2 Gb

Here are my questions:
1. I want to replace my VC to GTX 480 or 670
can either of the 2 handle my other parts?
as I've checked through google it says both uses DDR5. Do I need to replace also my board? (if so, I might end up upgrading my whole cpu)
but I saw someone with his video on youtube that uses GTX 480 same with the board that I have

2. I also wanted to replace my processor into phenom II X4 (later on) can I still use my old board and GTX 480?

Im not into upgrading my whole cpu into a new one. Im into tight budget right now :D

Thanks in advance

Your PSU should be able to handle both of your choices. There is no reason to replace your motherboard, as the ran on the videocard has nothing to do with the ram needed by your MB.

Lastly, unless you are getting the GTX 480 for super cheap, I would not buy that particular video card as there are better alternatives out there that use less energy and generate much less heat.

Here is a link to performance charts that have both your 5870 and the GTX 480 listed for comparison.

If I upgrade my cpu and mobo with the new videocard. Can I still also use my old PSU and RAM as well? Am I not needing a new RAM because Im using a DDR2 RAM? because seeing on the GTX's specs it says its a DDR5

Thanks

New mobo will use DDR3, so you will need new RAM also. Your PSU is a good one, and the only thing worth carrying over to a new build (case aside).

OP, sent you a PM if your still interested in a gtx 480.
Been a good card that has served me well just don't need it anymore.

if I were you, I would work more, if possible, and, save up money for a totally new build. buying old components will not get you far, nor will they be sufficient for long.

I feel bad seeing my 480 just sitting on the shelf. It needs a good home and has a Thermalright cooler on it that works really well. I will give you a good deal on it but it has had no issues and overclocks well. You just need a fan to blow through the heatsink and your good to go. lmk
