Okay so on previous advice I bought a Sapphire ATI 9200 PCI in order to get a second monitor to work on my box which is running an ATI 9800 AlW. So I put in the card, turned on the comp and it automatically detected the card because of my previous radeon drivers being installed. So I extended my desktop to the other monitor on the 9200 and now when I try to activate the TV function on the AIW card I get a

"The TV player failed to initialize the video.
Check the windows Device manager to ensure that the correct video driver had been installed and is working properly before attempting to restart TV"

Well I checked and there doesn't seem to be a conflict or non working driver so now I'm not sure what to do. When I disable the extended desktop it works fine. I was wondering if there is a way to get it to work with the desktop enabled.
Thanks

Hmm... that's an odd one. Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

does the 9200 pci have a TV out too? if so, you need to watch out which TV out you are enabling.

yes it does have TV out but that's not what I'm not outputting to a TV. I'm trying to get the ATI multimedia center TV function to work while both displays are running but I'm not having any luck. (sorry if that wasn't clear)

I have never used a AIW card, but I do have an ATI card and a Winfast TV card installed. I also run dual monitors. As you probably know, the ATI drivers install primary and secondary display drivers when you install the Catalyst drivers. Maybe you could try running the 9800 AIW as the secondary and the 9200 as the primary and maybe it will work. Just something to try.

hmm but then, if I'm right on this, any games that I play will run off of the 9200 rather than the 9800 which is not optimal.

AIW series cards do NOT support dual monitors (exception being 9600 xt). You can try anything / everything - but it is not supported.

really? because the dual monitors work... it's just not letting me use the MMC TV function with extended desktop enabled.

The problem is in how ATI handles multiple monitor support. I'd be very surprised if you got this working - ATI's multi-monitor support (and outputting to a TV is included as another monitor) is quite poor compared to nVidia or Matrox.

The problem is outputting to a TV with *another* monitor already existing. That's three 'monitors', for lack of a better concept, and ATI drivers don't handle that too well.

Hmmm maybe I'm not being clear... My problem is not with output. That works fine. The problem is when I try to input my ps2 into my AIW and I turn on the TV in the ATI Multi media center I can't get it to work when I have two Monitors enabled. I'm not trying to enable a TV I'm trying to get my ps2 to show up on one monitor while I use the other for browsing or whatever but when I try the program crashes. If that helps at all explain the issue.

I had a friend who tried to do the exact same thing, I think he ended up getting it to work when he switched his secondary card over to a matrox pci card. You might get it working with a few reloads of the driver, but I doubt it.

A quick check at the multi-monitor database reveals the following systems as compatible.

The last one they list:

Config 6059, submitted by Anonymous on Apr 13, 2004
WinXP, 2 monitors, 2 video cards
P4 1.5Ghz Abit TH7 II Raid
Card 1:
AGP ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 9800 PRO, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro chipset
unable to start TV
Card 2:
PCI ATI 9200
No problems

So you aren't alone...like everyone else said, Ati sucks at multi-monitor...they also suck at opengl, and linux...but hey, they can do AA/AF like nobody's business...*cough*

has anyone had luck with the omega drivers or is this just a hardware issue?

As far as I know it's hardware...you might try looking around at that multi-monitor resources site to see if you can dig up any more info on the problem...
