Hi all -

My girlfriends Dad just bought a new computer with Vista on it, and he wanted to install XP. There were 2 partions of 70gb set up on the computer. The first being labeled "ACER" with Vista on it, and the second "DATA" with nothing. So I formatted DATA again, and installed XP on that drive. Now I can't select to boot either, it automatically boots XP. The Vista files are all still there, is there anyway I can add Vista back to the boot options to select between the two? Thanks!

Here's the hard part though. I do not have the disk for Vista, it was a floor model Acer, and I have no disks for it. So I can only make use of files I have on the Vista and XP installs.

I had considered that possibility, but decided to give you the basic information in the meantime.

Since you don't have the install media, you basically have to get a bootloader that will include Vista. Method one is to run a Vista boot editor from XP, such as VistaBootPro, to hopefully reinstate Vista's dominance to allow selection:

Or maybe EasyBCD:

Another method is to install Linux (i.e. Ubuntu) with GRUB (as it can see Vista), but make sure to use XP to partition a little space for it first:
