Hi,

I am trying to go from 2x2GB to 4x2GB in my EVGA 790i FTW mobo. I had my sticks at 9-9-9-24 1T and 1066mhz @ 1.8v. When loading in the new sticks I bought (which are a different version, 2.4 vs 9.1) my system passes POST but crashes at windows log in.

The ram model is Corsair TW3x4G1600C9D and the motherboard is EVGA nForce 790i SLI FTW (132-YW-E179-TR).

I have mem-tested both kits and they are fine, I am just struggling to maintain stability with 4 sticks. Should I loosen the timings? How far? Would raising voltage to 1.9 help?

From what i can tell the old ram is 1066MHz and the new ram is 1600MHz

All i can tell you is you have to run all the ram at the slowest rams timings\speed and imho you should turn off SPD\auto plug and play and do the timings all by hand.

Remember the more ram dimms you use and or channels you use chances are you take a speed hit on timings and max memory speed you can pull off before you end up with stability problems and or it just wont boot.

So many people are having problems of late with ram its not even funny anymore and this would all so explain why my mobo has so many ram timing options,hell i haven't see this many ram bios options since my 486 computer days with 72pin ram.
The ram topic was a mess back then too with ram coming in different speeds and timings and flavors.
EDO vs dram vs parity ram vs none parity ram vs buffered vs fake parity ram vs ecc vs whatever etc.:p

Just to give you an idea i have 36 options for messing with a single memory module on my mobo meaning with all 4 dimms populated that gives me 144 freaking bios timings to mess with on the ram topic! or 36^4 power {1679616 combos}

RAM can either run at 1600 MHz using an amazing 1.25 volts, or 1866 using a slightly higher 1.35 volts.

You don't even need ram heat sinks on that thing and if you run it a 1.65v with ram sinks guess how fast it will run then ?

Long story short start off way slower on the timing and speed topic then the slowest speed ram you have and test it.

If the test is passed then start to tighten the memory timings and or pump up the speed till you end up with stability problems,use voltage as needed but you know the deal here.
check temps on ram and don't bake em, and if you over volt\heat the ram like a mad mad guess what happens.

Forgot to say cooling the integrated memory circuit has the same effect as more voltage, it stabilizes the thing.

Ps 1600Mhz = 200Mgz real world speed and i remember having 450mgz ddr1 {900MHz effective} back in the day on a video card and it didn't even need active cooling, meaning if that ram was ddr3 at 450MHz real world speed that would make it effective 3600Mhz ddr3
and don't get me started on gddr5 QDR topic.it's total BS :)

Anyways that's my 2 cents worth & the performance memory company's are really starting to get on my nerves, their so full of it.:mad:

Got it stable at 1066mhz 7-7-7-20 at 1.825v and i also upped the juice to one of my motherboard components...cant remember what its called but its related to memory...PLL?

Anyways thanks for the reply!
