I was planning in overclocking my I7 so got a CM V8 recently and I am not satisfied with the temperatures i am getting. Idles= 38-42C,.100% load =62-68C. I thought i should be getting way lower than that maybe idle 30C and 50'S under load.

Case: Cool Master Haf 932
CPU: I7 920
CPU Cooler: CM V8
Board; P6T Deluxe V2

I have read some threads with people having similar issues and I have made sure that the bracket is tight enough, i have reapplied thermal compound (Artic MX-3) in different ways line, pea, hi5, credit card. but it seems i get the same temperature range. Is there something I am missing?

Thanks
Ricardo

If you're getting around 68 load with a V8 you're not doing too badly. I had a defective V8 myself and couldn't get it below 78 at load (stock). Also, what's your airflow setup look like?

Well my case have four fans, one on the front where the air comes in and the air comes out from the other 3 fans (top, side, rear). I made sure that my V8 fan is blowing to the right direction. Btw i was reading a thread where sometimes the base of either cpu or cooler might not be completely flat (concave) and it could be the cause of our issues. So, I took the cooler out and i put the cpu against the coolers base and looks that mine is good since i wasnt able to see any gap where sunlight can go tru.

I found that maybe my issue was that I overtightened one of the nuts creating possible air bubbles or partial contact of the cpu and the base of the cooler.
I was able to to bring my temperature lower this time, idle 35C load: 60C. Now i overclocked my i7 to a 3.6GHZ and my load temperature are 45C / 71C (idle / load).

I will be happier if i can get lower temperature I have seen people with lower temperatures like under 30C / 50C.

those look like good temps for a above average air cooler, I almost went with the V8 myself, but got the H50, temp @ 2.66Ghz are 30*C/65*C and at 4.2Ghz 40*C/80*C

I tried to overclock it to 4.0 Ghz but i got some memory errors, i think i need to increase my vcore
