Help with HD7970 and no post

Today i received my HD7970. I went and swapped the card with my old HD5850, after trying a while i would simply get NO post.

I got a very short post after a CMOS reset, it showed the motherboard brand for a few seconds but then just a black screen.

My System

Asus Crosshair V Formula
AMD FX-8120 @ 4.0GHz stock voltage
OCZ ModXStream 700W
4x2GB Corsair Vengance 1600MHz low profile
1x Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB
1x Samsung F1 1TB
1x XFX HD5850

The problematic card: XFX HD7970 Double D

The simptoms are like these:

Turn on PC, LEDS turn on, etc
QLED (motherboard feature) stays on VGA_LED.
HD7970 fans stay loud as hell all the time, running at 100% probably

I tested with RC poster and the system boots fine, but never loads VGA BIOS, it loaded VGA BIOS once, when it briefly showed the motherboard screen; what i see it doing while the HD5850 is attached.

Do you have any ideas on what is going on?
 
Did you try installing the old card back in to see if she will post to figure out forsure that its the new card?

Is the new card seated fully into the PCI-E slot and you have the power lines connected to it?
 
Yes, currently i am using the old graphics card to browse the forums, I had the HD7970 fully seated on the PCI-E slot and the power lines attached to it.

But since you ask, the small complimentary 2 pin conector that makes the 8pins connector (6+2 pins) had to be pulled a bit in order to be in line with the other connectors, however it seems to me like its not getting enough power, since its cranking the fans speed at 100%
 
Might be your problem right there! If you pulled it outward it may not be locking in place anymore and not making the proper ground connection to the other side of the card. I'd check that wire out again to see if its holding in place. You would'nt want a weak connection anyways as that could cause all sorts of hell you dont want to deal with like burnt card or fire.

If you know how you could totally remove that pin from the connector to see if the small tabs on the sides of the pin have not bent in half to where the pin will not stay locked in place. you may beable to fix it.

Are you talking about a adapter the card manufacture included with the box or one of the ends of your psu cables?
 
Oh and usually when you go to use those 6+2 connectors you install the 6 side first and then the 2.
 
I'm betting this is the source of your problem as i kinda remember i had the same issue with 1 of the long adapter i'm using. Was a nightmare to figure out as you think its got power as the cards fan is spinning and the system never bothered to scream like it used to back when, when you would forget to install the power to the card. It was i believe the same thing.. one of the wires (ground) pulled out of the connector and was'nt making a proper connection.. Its just a ground wire but if its not connected then it will not send the proper power single to the psu to pull the right amount of juice to the card.
 
I am talking about the PSU native connector. The 2pin part seem to need a bit of force to get inline with the others however is just like if the cable is small, the inner parts (real copper) and the pin connector has never been exposed or taken out of the plastic by doing this. I guess ill need to test with another PSU (if i can even find some1 with an 8 pin connector or adapter, this kind of hardware is not very common here).
 
Ok so the wire/pin is not being forced out the backside of the connector then right? That happends when the male end dont line up right with the female end as you have difficulty making the connection. So what your saying is that the 2 pin part of the connector isint going all the way in cause of the housing around the 2 pin is too large? Maybe if your desperate enough you can take an emery board/nail file and shave away a little bit of the plastic housing edges that holding it up so it goes in.

Sucks.. You dont have any other cards or hardware boxes have any 6 to 8 pin connector in it?
 
Ill give ir a chance tomorrow, contacted a friend with a crossfire setup, maybe he has a connector on his psu orden an adapter ir ill search like mad for aun adapter con this town

An update, we tested the videocard on his system.
my friend has a Rosewill RS850 and we plugged the card. The card posted and, then the fans started spinning loud again and the card stopped to output video.

So right now i dont know what the hell is going on...!
 
Then i guess the card is bad after all. Return it, exchange it for another if you can.. RMA would prob take the longest.
 
well but the videocard displays and post everytime you try to turn on the pc, it is really bad? isn't it simply a symptom of low power?

In my case a return will be very hard, since i bought the videocard on USA and live on central america, RMA is the option for me, they send it back at my home without problems, just like the time my HD5850 but it will take a while. I already filled a case with XFX to see if they can help me troubleshoot the issue.

XFX? yawn might be compatibility issue, if thats the case your fubar
See if you can try it in another rig.
 
tested on a crosshair v, and a gigabyte 890fx, different power sources, the gigabyte was able to boot, the crosshair cant get to bios
