Help with HD7950 OC

Hi guys i'm trying to do some OC to my Gigabyte Windforce 3X 7950. I achieved maxing out the Core with Msi Afterburner. I'm at 1100mhz core but didn't touch the memory yet. You know.. there is something weird.. when i pass Unigine Heaven maxed out and 3dmark11 the card at 1100mhz core ( 1.2V) is fine, it doesn't crash, but when i play Crysis or almost any game, it crashes .__.. Aren't the benchmarks supposed to be more GPU demanding ? What should I do ? Temps are fine, even with these OC my temps are always below 60° with fan at 48%.
Oh and BTW, should i set the "Power Limit" slider at +20% ? Right now it is at stock "0%".
Last thing..., hmm CCC and Afterburner won't let me set a core frequency higher than 1100mhz , how can you guys Oc more than 1100mhz core ?

With overclocking the power limit should always be to plus 20%. Thats probably why its crashing in game. Also games are going to be more demanding. BF3 is the best gpu stability test for me. Not sure about the ccc settings. Theres ways around it. Hopefully someone can comment on that.
 
Games aren't always more demanding, its just certain games stress certain parts of the GPU that sometimes a benchmark doesn't and vice versa. Benchmarks are just good for quick and dirty stability testing because they're consistent where as a game isn't. That being said, If you pass benchmarks but crash in a game, it isn't stable, back it down some until it is. There are people that can run games fine too and crash in benchmarks so it works both ways. They key is to find a consistent method of testing and stick to it. In your case, I would run Heaven for 30-60 minutes, if it passes, then try Cryis for a while or whatever game crashes and see if it passes. You stated that you passed Heaven benchmark but for how long? Don't run the bench, just let it loop at max settings for 30-60 minutes. I've seen overclocks that will pass the Heavn benchmark, but fail running loops after 30 minutes.

I have enough confidence in Heaven that if you pass a 30-60 minute loop at max graphics settings, DX11, Max Tesselation, 16AF, and 8xAA, you have a pretty damn stable OC. If it fails in a game after that, I promise you that you're very close to where you need to be, just bring your clocks down a bit and try again. Heaven will get you in the ballpark everytime.
 
for AB, to increase the clock limits, start it with the /xcl switch.

this will increase the limits globally, so youll see it on CCC as well.

As hammerforged said you have to set power limit to +20%. and yeah BF3 is a very good stability test.
 
BF3, Crysis, Crysis 2, Metro 2033, and Unigine Heaven are all good stability tests. If you can make any or all of those tests, your card is stable.
 
Ok guys, thanks for your quick replies!! Well now i have my card running at 1100mhz ( core freq. slider maxed out in Afterburner ) and stock memory at 1250mhz ( haven't touch it yet ) with 1.2V for the core. Temps are awesome, always below 60° and i've been playing Crysis 2 and BF3 for a couple of hours.., seems to be stable. Do you think 1.2V is a safe 24/7 voltage for HD7950?
And the other thing.., i still don't understood how can i get the core past 1100mhz because CCC and Afterburner won't let me :(. Thanks again.
