I need some assistance here. I’ve been out of the PC building game for a LOOOOOONG time. I bought my 13 year old daughter a PC a few months ago. Core specs are:

Ryzen 7 5000 Series
Integrated graphics
16GB of RAM
Not sure on the PSU right now. Almost positive there’s no power for a GPU (4 pin/6 pin cord).

I told her I’d get her a GPU for Christmas if she gets straight A’s this semester. She primarily plays Roblox and Fortnite.

What’s a good GPU for around $150 that won’t require external power?

Thanks in advance. Been out of the game for a minute now and have no idea what’s good or bad these days. I’m open to AMD or Nvidia options.
 
I'd look up the model number and find out what its power supply is, as well as if it will even physically fit a discrete card. Then you can decide what to get. The 4-pin connector hasn't been used for around 20 years ;).
 
3050 only draws 70w iirc. It’ll run on 300w. I’ve got a 4060 running in an HP Z2 SFF 310w system using a dual Sata to 8 pin cable. Stable and nothing is burning down ( not recommended, working )

Agreed. It's pretty close, budget wise and good to go power wise and you can purchase new stock. Always nice for the unwrapping.

You'd have to bump up both to get to the next level (3060/4060 or RX 6600) 6 or 8 pin power and $. 3050 is much better than AMD in similar price/power config.

Check your PSU anyway. Sounds like an OEM build with an OEM type psu. Then, you'll know what you have and what options you may have later. Also, while you're in there, are you good on the slot placement? Full size x16 slot with plenty of space for a 2x slot sized GPU? There are tons of Dell's running around where they put the full size slot on the bottom of the MB right above the PSU or bottom of case and they have only 1x thickness for a GPU.

Why not step up the psu and open up your options? I've got a thermaltake smart power 700watt psu I'll donate for the cost of shipping. That should power any mid range gpu that I'm sure you can find in your price range. The psu has 2 8 pin pci-e connectors so you could power a really decent gpu with it.

I appreciate it. I’ve got a 520W modular PSU from an old machine of mine I can use if it comes to that.
