Well, i have the 60 gig drive in a USB2 enclsure, i have the jumper on the hard drive set to cable select...

I have windows running, and it claims that it is working fine... however the storage does NOT show up in my computer..

why might that be?

anybody that can offer any help, i would be very thankful!

edit:

do i somehow need to assign a drive letter? this seems very odd, because in the device manager, it shows up as " USB mass storage device", but still, no drive letter or way to access it..

edit2:

do i perhaps need to set the jumper on the hard drive to slave?

my desktop does not have USB2 (although its obvioulsy backwards compatable) but my laptop does... same thing happened with my laptop, plugged it in, it was installed no problem with native drivers, but no drive letter in my computer... oh well, ill try switching it to slave i guess..

in other notes, is it safe to just switch the thing on and off?

AHH!

Thanks :)

if the volume has not been formatted, then windows will not mount it and give it a drive letter.

in windows 2000 at least, right click 'My Computer' and then 'Manage'. look for 'Disk Management' under 'Storage' and you should be able to format the disk and assign it a drive letter. WinXP shouldn't be too different.

and to the 'turning it off and on' bit, the proper thing to do is look for an icon in your system tray for removable media (will be there after it's mounted) and then open it to eject the attached media. then you can turn it off. you prolly won't kill anything you just turn it off tho.

on off switch should be fine. dont think they would give you the option if it wasnt intended to be used. when else would you need to turn the drive on and off other than when you want to pull it from one machine to another. should be fine. also xp is the same as 2000 in the directions BriguyNJ gave
