Spec's in sig.

I have the sata ports hot swap set to Enable in the BIOS for the ports I am using. I also have Bluetooth support service starting because I think that too is required.
All OPROM's are disabled in BIOS. Not using RAID. Have one SSD and 3 HDD's. Case is Corsair 800D with sata 3 hot swap plate.
Problem is, I can't get the "safely remove hardware" icon showing in the system tray. I'm pretty sure it worked with the B2 board I had but can't seem to get it on this B3. Any ideas would be appreciated.

There is no hotswap on Intel ports using RST drivers AHCI/RAID
Thats why ASUS called it hotplug

Thanks for the reply.

This is taken from Intel's irst_user_guide.pdf.

2.10.2 Hot Plug
Hot plug, also referred to as hot swap, is a feature supported by AHCI that allows SATA hard drives to be removed or inserted while the system is powered on and running. As an example, hot plug may be used to replace a failed hard drive that is in an externally-accessible drive enclosure.
Note: To take advantage of hot plug, you need the following:
• Chipset that supports AHCI
• Intel® Rapid Storage Technology
• Hot plug capability correctly enabled in the system BIOS by the motherboard manufacturer

I believe I meet all those criteria and am still uncertain what I'm missing.

AFAIK you will never see the add remove tray icon for Intel port HDD unless in IDE mode and/or MS drivers (not RST). This has been argued back and forth for years going way back. One can play games with words, but I think ASUS put hotplug in BIOS for AHCI performance (NCQ), not hotswapability for a reason. You could spend the next ten hours researching this on Google, but in the end you will not see the option to remove a drive on a SB mobo with AHCI or RAID after you plug one in while in Win 7 with RST drivers, like you can with a USB stick. Notice they used as example an external drive - eSATA

If you figure it out, make a screenie of the add rem under RST and I will salute you and ask you what you did - lol.

Normally I wouldnt get involved in this craziness, but no one answered so I threw out a quick reply. I hate to see threads were no one answers - heh

Yea I Googled and found nothing definitive.

Thanks for your reply and effort to help. :)

I used the take advantage of the hotswap feature a couple of times almost a year ago. It was Windows 7, not even SP1 yet. And old bios versions and everything. Anyway, after installing Windows the hot swap option (in the sys tray) seemed to be available (with MS drivers). However, as soon as you installed Intel RST drivers, the hot swap disappeared.

I think I used this tiny software. Although very old, it seemed to work:
