Here's the deal. I'm most likey selling my wife's computer for $550. With that money, I will have to replace her system. She will be getting my mobo and proc, an 80GB HDD I have laying around, a CD-RW I have laying around, and a GeForce 4 ti4200 I have laying around. I will be buying a new mobo and proc for my rig (A64 3200+ 90nm 939 & MSI 8KN Neo2Plat). The buyer will get a new case (the one that it is in now is horrible), and my wife wants a new case too. Add to that a new heatsink for the new proc, and I will have right at $100 left over. With that money, I will have to do something about ram. In my wife's rig now is 512MB of CorsairXMS PC3200 c2. I can either sell that ram with the system, or buy some cheap ram to replace it since the buyer will not overclock, and would never notice the difference between the ram (if they could even spell ram).
If I buy some cheap ram to replace the Corsair, I will have a new mobo and proc, my wife will have a nice little upgrade, and about $30-40 to boot. If I don't replace the ram, I will give my wife my Corsair, and I will have only about $100 to buy some new stuff.
I really think I need more than 512MB of ram. I just don't have the money to get what I really want. The only thing that I have found that I might be able to swing is a gig of the cheap Mushkin stuff (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-299&depa=1).
Do you think it would be better to have a gig of the cheap stuff over 512MB of good stuff? I will obviously want to oc the new proc, but I think that the ram would hold that back. I really don't know what I want to do. Worst case senario is that my performance remains the same, and my wife gets an upgrade all for free. What do you think?
