I'm trying to find some info on PSU cases. There a quite a few mods with acrylic covers, but I'd like to build a whole new case. I searched the forums, and googled all over, but couldn't find what I'm looking for. If there's already a thread on this, please direct me to it.

My PSU currently sits low in my mid-tower case, and is sitting partially above my CPU fan, limiting the airflow. Right now, I have the PSU suspended outside the case, with an extra exhaust fan (wedged) in the space left over. This opened up the area above the CPU fan, but didn't really provide much difference in temperature.

I have two objectives from this mod:
1) add venting to the underside of the PSU, so the CPU can draw air in more easily, and
2) reverse the position of the PSU components so that the board is on the opposite side from the CPU fan. Currently the board sits on the panel which is against the cpu.

All tips and advice are appreciated.

best place to start is to take apart the psu you want to mod. See how the shell is put together and start from there. The problem with an all acrylic case is that a psu can get pretty hot and deform the acrylic if it's not thick enough. the problem with increasing the thickness is that it won't mount how it used to becuase it's now thicker. That's why most stay with a "window" partial acrylic mod because the metal keeps the acrylic from warping.

I'm not trying to discourage you, there are plenty of ways to mod the existing mounting of a psu, or create a whole new way to mount one. You just have to plan it out.

As for changing the configuration of the PSU it wouldn't be too hard to change mounting holes in the psu case to basicly turn the PSU upside down. And if you're going with a custom PSU case you're free to mount that thing anywhere.
