Help with cpu choice for multimedia not games

Sup people, well It has been a long time since I have had any knowledge of up to date computer peripherals but it is time to buy a new computer and i am asking for your appreciated help in this manner!

I do hip hop/rap beats now and It requires more cpu/ram usage than anything else. I run many programs at once and withing each program I use various vst's.

I am looking to buy a cpu through newegg with the price range of 200-350.

I prefer Intel and I will be buying 4GB of ram.I do not need a graphics card since I will not be using dual monitors.

I use an external audio interface so I do not use the computers audio card which I do have but it is not of importance. Monitors are hooked up to the audio interface not through the computers jacks.

Also is lga 775 good socket for this?

i am also just thinking of getting this and upgrading the ram

sounds like the C2D Q6600 will be the best CPU for you *if* you can wait until July 22nd when the prices will drop to $266 within your budget.
