Help with Cooler Master Aqua kit

Hello guys. A friend of mine bought the kit and he hooked up all the connections right. However, the system would shutdown via overheat protection. The system does post but for like 20 seconds. The water block on the cpu has a mirror smooth finished and he used arctic silver. The water pump is pumping and the rad. fan is on. I have no idea why the cooler won't work like it is supposed to. I know that this cooler kit isn't great but it should cool fine for a cpu that is not o/ced'. I am really vague about System specs but they are Asus SLI mobo, AMD x2 +4200, OCZ ram, 2x 7800GT and some power supply I never heard of but it seems of good build (weights more that 5lbs rated at 600watts). Anyone have any clue to this problem? :confused:
 
Can anyone help my friend? He really is bummed that his new system is not working right now.. :confused:
 
I'd say for some reason the block isn't making good contact with the CPU. Are you sure that he removed the protective film off the block before he installed it???????????
 
Either the loop is completely blocked, or the block is not making contact with the CPU. Those are the only reasons I can think of for it to overheat so quickly...besides a faulty temp. monitor, of course.

We check this and it is making contact.

A faulty temp. monitor could be a factor. He still hasn't tried the stock cooler on the chip yet to test this fully.

remove the kit, install the stock cooler and see if same problem occurs. That way at least you know is the aqua kit or the hardware problem. Check under the waterblock for the protective film.

Also go into bios and check the temp there. and turn off CPU fan shutdown feature if your aqua kit's rad fan is not connect to the cpu fan bus.

Last thing is check the PSU is SLI certified. Even it is heavy and rated 600W, it doesn't matter if it is faulty or insufficient.

He doesn't want to remove the Aquagate because he says it is too much work (lazy bum :rolleyes:) So we shouldn't plug the rad fan into the mobo cpu connector, right? Also the PSU shouldn't shutdown the system after a few second because its not SLI certified, right? I mean I seen some very screwed up systems because of faulty SLI installs, but I haven't run into a problem of the PSU shutting down a system with 2 video cards in SLI in the first few seconds of boot up.

Well, if your rad fan doesn't support RPM monitoring, and your motherboard requires RPM monitoring for the CPU fan power connector, you will need to either disable it in BIOS, or put a running fan in it. Give it a shot with your original HSF plugged in and see if it will work.

Open up the fillport on it and top of the coolant. It can be turning off for that reason. That kit has that fail safe system too. If the coolant is low it'll turn off. Another thing to try and to see if it is the temp sensor turning off the computer is to just not add the temp sensor. The sensor will stay at room temp and shouldn't turn off the pc. If it does turn off its something else then. I'm putting my money on low coolant.
 
I use one of these kits myself. Used to be on my XP3200 but since upgrading to a 3500 A64 I changed over to a custom job. I still use this for cooling the GPU of my 7800GT and it does a great job.

The problem you are seeing had me stumped for a bit as well. I have found with mine it is caused by one of two things. First is the autoshut down lead tyhat plugs into you power switch then piggy backs the original switch connector. Make sure this is installed correctly.

But most likely it is your sensor itself. When these fail on this system it causes the unit to shutdown as a saftey first sort of thing. Have a close look at the end of the sensor to make sure the the wire loop that is visable is not broken or damaged. Sometimes heatsink compound can work it's way in as well causing the sensor to fail. I went though a couple from coolmaster and ended up using one of a el cheapo 7$ sensor/LCD kit and have had no problems since.

My buddy just hooked up the stock hsf and the computer did the shutdown after about 20 seconds. At this point I think it is mobo related. He is going to get the board RMA and sent back to newegg... thanks for all your help guys.
 
Hello guys. Just an update... after we got the RMA board, it still did the same problem... we finally found out it was the PSU.... I forget the brand of the damn PSU it supposedly rated 660watts :rolleyes: & SLI certified :p ...... I told him to check that stupid PSU before he did anything.... but that naive sonofabitch said he paid good money for it and it is "SLI certified".... :eek:
