help with cable clutter

This thread is useless without pictures. Get some pictures up, then we can see which wires are in the way. For starters, get some zip ties and split loom. Then you can go from there, once we see some pics.
 
split loom works, especially to start off with. I rpefer sleeving since it is more flexible. Way more tedious though.

Agreed. I'm thinking of working on actually doing both. Sleeving works great for tidying cables, but you can also use split loom once your cables are sleeved to act as raceways for some of them if you have the right case. I plan to mount the split loom in my case in two areas and guide some of the cables through them.

Alternatively, you can take your sleeved cables (as he said, sleeving is a pain, but you won't regret the results) and use adhesive-backed cable locks inside the case to route your cables along certain paths. If you want to really cheap out, zip ties will help you to some extent, but for best results, sleeving and loom have a far more professional look. Also, swap your flat ribbon IDE and floppy cables for rounded cables.

and get yourself some loom and zip ties along with the adhesive backed mounting brackets for the zips. You can also get some spiral type wrap.

Also, try to send all the cable from your PSU to the back of your mobo tray before pulling them to wherever you need them. That is a heap of help.

Other tips include running audio cables under PCI cards or even underneath the mobo! I agree that you do need to get some rounded cables or if you don't have the $, there are lots of guides to make your ribbon cables into rounded cables.

Sleeving is great but it sounds like you are just starting off and instead of going and putting a wire in the wrong connector and doing some serious damge, stick with the loom.
